Have just spoke to the Caravan Club concerning my insurance. I store my Caravan at one of their storage facility's and get a discount for various things including having an alarm.
But, and heres the but!! The storage site asks alarms to be switched off, the insurance could be void if the alarm is not on!
If the van was stolen then you could find that they might not pay out.
Also a criteria of the Alarm discount is that you always have the alarm on when the van is not occupied.
Please, if your situation is like mine then check with your insurance.

It would seem that they are separate entities that are the same company and don't talk to each other. Although it seems its the Insurance underwriters that are at odds with the situation.
I have stored the Caravan at other CC sites and used to leave the alarm on and give them a set of keys to reset the alarm should it play up.
Vehicle alarms are seen more as noise pollution than security devices. Is anybody likely to call the cops if one goes off & are they likely to respond if they are called?
Certainly an alarm is good if the 'van is parked on your own property to wake you if somebody tries to nick it but is there much point in one on a storage site?

So it seems that at the other CC sites it's OK to leave the alarm on, but not this one?? Odd! I would have hoped that they would have come up with a better explanation than 'don't talk to each other'. I would have been tempted to ask at exactly what point might they start to communicate.
How could they prove the alarm wasn't on if it was stolen?, iv'e been to my storage place a couple of times and alarms have been going off to the point when the battery is starting to die, saying that it is cheap and they have to get past the security string on the gate first,
Funnily enough, i have just asked this question of our insurers, C&CC, as the alarm is not very reliable. Sometimes it goes off, for no apparent reason, just after setting it, closing the door. We had no cost reduction on our insurance for using it, so i had it removed from our insurance. Of course, we'll use it when it sets properly but at least now its not stipulated as a security device, so if the worst was to happen and the alarm wasn't set, then we won't be penalised.
We have the same, I had to tell the Caravan Club that we don't have an alarm, just because it's not worth setting anyway, for one the storage is too far for anyone to hear it and it would flatten the battery which we rely on for our tracker. 2nd, we store this on a permanent site, and people wouldn't want their relaxing holidays spoilt if they could hear alarms going off, particulary when they usually go off for no reason.
