Hi.Normally we use ehu but we have twin electrics on the towbar which I hook up to the folding camper .My question is on the switch inside the unit is it to be put on van or car or in the middle position to enable the battery to be charged in transit.Thanks.Alex

We have a folding camper new the electrics are similar to a caravan if not the same

Pennine say that it should be in the middle position and then it will charge the leisure battery whilst in transit. Thanks for all the replies

Goodness knows how long I've been doing this, and I always have to check in the manual.  I can never remember.

Hi.David.I have had a broken ankle recently and have not been able to use the van.The other week we had it out to do something and I hiched it to the house electrics so as to give the battery a bit of a charge. We have a motor mover fitted  (yes on a folding camper) well it was on when we got it anyway because my ankle was in a cast we engaged the mover but it didnt seem to have much go to it and that is why I charged it off the house electrics. We always use a hookup on site but the twin electrics are always connected so the battery should have a it of juice when its been used on a regular basis.Well that got me to thinking about the switch and if it was in the right position I presumed that it always had been.Cheers.Alex

One thing we have to remember to do with this caravan is to switch off the Master switch when the van is in storeage.  If we don't, the little bit of electricity that goes through the system is enough to take some power out of the battery and the motor mover is likely to pack up half way through the job.  I think some of the power goes in the vacinity of the radio (I think the radio light is on the whole time unless you switch of the Master switch).  I doubt if you have the same system on the TT, but I mention it just in case.

Not sure what you're getting at when you say the twin electrics are always connected?  They should only be plugged into the car while you are travelling, for road lights, fridge and charging the 12v battery.  Not on site and not at home - there the mains electric lead is what you use.  I've probably misunderstood what youi are getting at here??

P.S. Hope the ankle is getting better.

Hi.David sorry i meant that they were connected whilst towing only.I would need a rather large pitch imagine.car + folding camper+ awning on the front.I doubt that there are many pitches about that could accomodate that set up even the so called super pitches.Cheers.Alex

One of the sites we stayed at in the summer might have accommodated this set up.  Not that it would make a lot of difference.  It would only charge the battery while the engine is running, and with the price of petrol/diesel, I like to keep me engine off as long as possible!!
