When Storing the Caravan for the Winter, is it Better to take Out the cushions that you sit on in the caravan ..Or is it best to leave them in..With our Lunar caravan the seating cushions sit on top of wooden slats that can be pulled forward and backwards..Meaning that with the Flooring having Air Vents under the seating surely Damp air can come up through the vents and cause damp mould on the bottom of the Seating cushions..Where is caravans with wooden hinged lift up panels won`t have any problems because the seating cushions are sat on top of the hinged lift up panelling board..
We just leave ours on their sides in the middle of the van as its in storage. You must not cover the vents as air must be allowed to circulate be that hot or cold.
Take them out and store them in the house, plus a mattress. Many will come on here and say that it is fine to leave them in. However, my view is that they are better in the warm than in a cold frozen van for months. It does no harm to take them in doors but could do harm to leave them in the van. It's your choice....

ps I also take the curtains down and bring them into the house over winter.

Hi, I do as Phil, take them out and store in house, my van on drive, and a van without cushions could be a little less of a prospect for would be thieves, especially if it is in storage some way off.

If in Doubt Check it Out.
ours is parked on the drive luckily and i remove them to the loft.covered by old bed quilt covers, keeps of damp and dust.never had a mould problem.do not use any sprays as these can form mold/mould.

We take ours out and slide them under the double bed in our spare bedroom and cushions, etc under the bed in our room. Its a bit of pain but as our van is at a storage site we won't be visiting much over winter and prefer to know they are safe and dry at home!
Cold air is not damp. Humid air is damp, some days are more humid than others at any time of the yr. At any temp the more the air can circulate the better, so stand cushions on edges if you can but no need to remove them.
Our van will be going back into storage tomorrow, have just fetched from workshop where its had full service. Taken all upholstery out and stored indoors. Have washed it this afternoon and when parked in storage the cover will go on and the battery will come off and stored in shed for periodic charging. Will then jack up and put axle stands underneath to ease the loading on the tyres. Maybe I'm wasting my time, but it can't do any harm and it keeps me amused and out of mischief...................Mick

We also do the same with ours, everything comes out of our van for the winter months. It must have upset the scum who stole our last one off the drive when they ended up with an empty shell.
Actually a good point being made here. Removal of cushions & curtains make a caravan unattractive to thieves. Caravan theft is generally pre-planned & if the 'van is seen stored without curtains/cushions the thieves may well look elsewhere.
we brought home our new Lunar yesterday and in the owners handbook it says to remove the cushions then wash the walls and ceilings with dettox!!!! How ridiculous (the dettox bit). Cushions will be staying in van but on their sides.

true im afraid.one year in winter i checked and there was spots of mould appearing on the wall over the sink and cooker.i put it down to splashes of fat or food from sink or cooker hob.for the past three years i have wiped the walls with fendox or anti bacterial spray when laying the van up.never had a problem since.
