We've always left ours in and have never had a problem. Apart from anything else, we don't really have space to store them at home. Not sure if I think the loft is any better than leaving them in the van. With the isolation on the ceiling, our loft is very cold.
When you think about it all the new vans are left in storage as well as dealers forecourts and they dont seem to have a big problem with damp or take any other precautions as putting the cushions on their sides.

agree jeff if the cushions are new there should not be a problem with mold even if they do get damp, problem is a used one has sticky finger marks and spillages although wiped can go moldy in damp conditions.once black it can not be removed.we used to have a similar problem with secondhand cars if not checked.
