Hi All,

We've only had our caravan for a couple of months and now we are looking to get it serviced over the winter.

What can I roughly expect to pay for a standard service of a single axle caravan ?

The owner of my caravan storage site (also a caravan dealer) has an offer for £160 including collection and return to/from storage. Is this good value ?

That sounds a fair price, but if it is under manufacturers warranty or damp ingress warranty then the workshop doing the servicing might need to be listed by the NCC and CC.

If that is a full service and includes VAT it is about the going rate.

If the caravan is out of warranty you can service the interior yourself. Just a chassis service, wheel bearings/brakes will cost about £70.

If a van is under warranty, the service generally has to be done by a servicing department approved by the company offering the warranty.  Please check the wording of the warranty.  Bailey have their own list of approved servicing people.  This is the was I have always understood it.

I checked with swift and they said as long as the servicing department was a swift dealer or CC/NCC registered, it was fine.

Well mine is a TA, the engineer came from St Austel to St Ives charged me £90, and yes he is a qualified eng. But he did give the brakes a miss, cos it's on a seasonal pitch, and the van as only done 365 miles from picking it up.

Hi All,

Many thanks for the repsonses, being the owner of our very first caravan, I had no idea what was reasonable and what wasn't.

I think I'll go with the offer and save myself the hassle of getting the van to & from the servicing dept.

If your caravan is out of warranty every 2yrs will do. A chassis service is wheels off, brake drums off, repack bearings if not sealed type, clean & adjust brakes etc, £70. Thats good enough if you can check your appliances yourself & check tyres & wheel nuts obviously. A yearly service is just the usual UK ripoff. German caravanners only service every 2 yrs & their's have to be mot'eed as well.
