Both myself and the wife are off from Christmas Eve for a week and with the kids all grown up and going away to stay with their partners families for Xmas we find ourselves thinking of spending Xmas in our van.
Anyone else do/done this?
Are CC sites busy at this time? are they even open?

Been away the last 2 christmas's.it was quite a challange last year with the snow and low temperatures.
Our kids are grown up but will be round with their partners xmas eve for Chinese takeaway! 19 year old daughter still at home though and said no way will she be spending Christmas in our caravan. I have my Mum and Dad still alive (thank God)who are coming Christmas day.One day however we will be going away for Christmas in the van and looking forward to the experience.Enjoy!
We ventured to Cumbria last year to be close to relatives and it was an 'experience'. Snow on the ground and what appeared to be a site deserted of users (qty of statics and seasonal pitches, so site 'occupied' with vans all year), suddenly became suprisingly active as folk ventured out.
Water was partly an issue (filled Aquaroll at brother-in-laws), but once prepared with suitable insulation for the Aquaroll, keeping pump indoors when not required etc., and general common sence approach, it was quite a fun week IMO.
Incidentally, fresh snow fall overnight on our last day made quite an impact on our departure and the number of folk who appeared from nowhere to give a hand, was most welcome.
Yes a lot of the cc sites are open at that time of year although a lot are full up, it is a very popular time.
We usually go away just after Xmas through New year.
Last year we were at Chatsworth, the water fall on the estate was a fantastic magical snowy frozen scene, something very rarely seen. Thats the beauty about going away at this time of year, so much to see that you don't see at other times, especially if you are prepared to wrap up and go out walking.
We have been to Castleton when it was nearly as bad as last year, but we were prepared and managed, we have never been cold in the van in fact I don't think we have ever had the heating on full.
Another year we went to Cromer and walked along the beach on a surprisingly busy, sunny New Years day.
Take the plunge, it's fantastic but book soon to avoid dissapointment.
Went to CC Sandringham the year before last in the snow, loved it and would happily do it again when we get the chance. Went to see the Royals going to church on Christmas morning then came back for a full dinner - a turkey crown was just the right size for the oven. Part of the site had been closed because of the snow but quite a few people on the bottom bit, complete with fairy lights :)
We have tried to get to Cawood Park near York for the past 2 year but the snow has stopped us from getting there. We are trying again this year & hopefully we will get there as the site is open all year round. I dont like being on holiday on Christmas day or boxing day, so going on the 28th of December & coming back 31st of December, hopefully weather should stay fine for us to get there.
We went to the Forestry site at Beddgelert, it was beautiful. We always used to walk on Christmas Day anyway, so this combined two of our hobbies. I was surprised how many people were there, some of them even arriving on Christmas Day.

Nora
My last day at work is Xmas Eve, so I can see why people turn up the following day.
Luckily I get away early so will be able to get to a site by tea time.
it was interesting to read about the club sites that people go to for Christmas, would be interested to hear of people who have gone to a smaller site like a CL for Christmas and how they got on, weve been thinking of doing this for a couple of years, but have never took the plunge.
------------- "PACESETTERS" German Shepherd dog display team, we are out and about raising money for guide dogs.
we generally go away the day after boxing day til around the 4th january, It really is a lovely time of yeat to get away
have done CL's and sites for the last 4 years now and always had a great time, the year before lasts snow made it a bit scary getting home but didn't deterr us.
Went to Winchcombe C & CC site last year and was amazed at how quiet it was, Sites like Moreton in the March CC site get booked up really early for christmas usually as they are really close to towns,
Haven't sorted out our post christmas trip yet for this year so better get a move on.
Nothing like a nice hot Mulled wine in the caravan on a freezing evening.
