Hi when i fit my bailey Al-ko secure the bolt tightens and locks out leaving a gap of about 5-7mm between the back of the lock and the wheel. This allows the lock to wobble about a bit. Is this right or should it fit tighter against the wheel?
Thanks.
It should fit into the wheel snugly and securely so that no pulling pressure can be applied to it. You may have the wrong lozenge for that particular wheel or the black plastic part may be missing.
Mine bolts up with the central boss tight to the receiver but allowing the "lozenge to rock around the boss just perceptibly. As Brian I think you have the wrong lozenge or what I believe is now a plastic protector. [ Mine predates any plastic protector so I don't know about that. Mine just has now well worn stick on sponge rubber protection strips about a mm thick on the wheel abutting flanks.]
Its brand new and correct for the bailey. When i tighten it up the thread locks out before the lozenge touches the wheel face. This allows it to wobble about but the wheel would not rotate. I feel it needs another turn or so on the thread to mate properly.
As you say it feels as though it needs to thread in further have you checked in bottom of threaded hole to see if maybe there is any swarf in it from when the hole was tapped.Have a poke with a long thin screwdriver with a magnet held on it.
I had a bit of an issue on our new lock, which turned out to be a very tight stiff thread fitting, a bit of elbow grease tightened it up and it has become much easier subsequently. Might even want to put a bit of wd-40 on the thread 1st time to help.
Do you have the yellow protector on the wheel thread when not in use?, might have some contanimation on the thread. Also alignment is critical, must be exactly right or it will not tighten fully.
