If you are thinking of buying a 12v to 240v inverter for your touring caravan and are tempted by some good prices on offer I would IMPLORE you to have a read through this web page.

The fact that some are unreliable is the least of the problem.

Some are outright dangerous.

Read this

I came across it by chance whilst browsing the web on another subject and whilst it is pretty boring to persons without an interest in electronics the message ( the danger, or even lethality, of some badly designed ones ) is in there for anyone to see.

I have an ancient 300W inverter that works fine but had thought about a more powerful one at today's prices.

PLEASE READ IF YOU ARE THINKING OF BUYING AN INVERTER.

Colin

< but not willing to pay the outrageous prices asked by manufacturers who are known for their quality products, I settled for a Taiwanese made inverter>

Cheapo far eastern electrical equipment is rubbish, no suprises there then?

Ditto; and he obviously knows enough technically to have known better.

My UK made 200 pure sinewave & 120 and two 75 Watt RING modified sinewave ones have given great service.

Most cheapo modified wave inverters are fine. This case was a pure sine inverter, these work on a totally different principle & need to be done right, which is why they are so expensive.
