The Alko spare wheel carrier is crap. Never had to call on it in anger, but I understand that if you have a nearside flat, you can't get the spare wheel out.
Having spent 17k on a 'van, my first action was to strip the carrier, liberally grease the tubes, screws and ensure that in the event of needing it, I stood a fighting chance of getting it off.
Tried carrying the spare behind the passenger seat, but the kids started to complain...
