Just take it off and scrap it,after spending an hour in the dark on the hard shoulder of the M62 with a torch triyng to get the stupid thing out i would never use one again.

Best thing Avondale ever did was to put the spare in the floor.

The Alko spare wheel carrier is crap. Never had to call on it in anger, but I understand that if you have a nearside flat, you can't get the spare wheel out.

Having spent 17k on a 'van, my first action was to strip the carrier, liberally grease the tubes, screws and ensure that in the event of needing it, I stood a fighting chance of getting it off.

Tried carrying the spare behind the passenger seat, but the kids started to complain...
