Hi there,
Happy days, we have just ordered our first ever NEW caravan. A swift fairway 586. (chuffed as little apples!).
There is an option to have seat cushion instead of the central two drawer set up. Thereby giving a U shaped sitting area. We have currently the side by side sofa set up.
There is me and OH and our 9 year old son. The tv point is being added elsewhere so drawers not essential, other than storage.
I just wondered if anyone has chosen either option, and if it has worked for them, any regrets, or things I need to think about (eg, where to put my cup of coffee??)
Many thanks
Pam
Ps my initial thoughts are the u shape looks more cosy ??

we had the u shaped seating area in our last caravan. To me the advantage of the wraparound seating is a larger front double but otherwise I'd rather have the chest of drawers. Maybe ask how much the extra cushions are then you'll have the best of both worlds.

Hi taneth16, Congratulations on your new van, as savanne1 says, or maybe you could get them to through in a couple of cushions, that way you could take out drawers, and see if you prefer it that way, drawers simple to take out on most vans, take drawers out and turn the two catches at the back of unit then lift out drawer unit, for your tea/coffee you could pick up one of those small aluminium folding tables, got one from aldi’s weighs less than 2kg around £20.

We have an L shaped lounge and love it, and a small wooden folding table from Dunelm which cost a lot less than £20. When we had caravans with parallel seating and the chest of drawers, we found the flip over top of the chest very useful for eating at, but I suppose that only works for 2 people. We also replaced the large clunky wooden table with a lightweight Gelert one which can also be taken outdoors.

we changed ours to wraparound seating this year and dont miss the chest at all. The lounge is really comfy and the bed is now huge. Weve got a small plastic box with lid that we keep in the wardrobe for things that were in the drawers (pens etc). We have a twin lounge caravan so we can still leave the table up at the back if we need to .Whatever you decide enjoy your new van!

I'm following this thread, as this is something we're considering for our next van. We like the L shape lounge, but can't find one in our layout we prefer or weight to tow, so this may be a solution.

Can I just ask another question to add to this thread:

just for an idea, What is the weight difference on average, of removing the drawers weight and adding the cushions weight??

We opted for the U shaped when we bought our pageant bordeaux in 2002. Thought it would work but found it a big mistake. It was never used, retro fitted the two drawer unit and never looked back. Great for a quick snack no need to put up the big table. But its entirely your decision, one man's meat etc.

Well, I am awaiting a price for the wrap around lounge option. The one good thing with our layout is that there is a dining area at the other end of the van that I hope to utilise for the three of us ( we can fit around it comfortably) where as before we had the small side dinette which only seated 2.
Just hope it's not too pricey !!
Sounds a good idea of a box for the bits and bobs from the drawers, when I emptied them from the old van, I realised a lot of stuff had gathered in the drawers which were hardly used.
Small table for drinks also seems good idea.

The wraparound price is around £245 if you order when new. We paid £380 as our van is 2 years old . Not sure how much lighter the seating is compared to the chest but the chest was really heavy when we removed it i would say double the weight of the cushions

Hi, depending on the size of drawer unit, possibly 5 to 8 kg, cushions may weight about 3 to 6kg, depending on how deep cushions are. Why not weight your drawer unit, they should just be held in place by two leaver type brackets, accessed by the removal of the drawers.
