Hello all from a very windy Glasgow. Schools in the area have been closed due to the forecast of winds up to 90mph later this afternoon. I just hope the caravan stays put, it is at the side of my garage so fingers crossed. I have been in the garden to make things secure so I just need to sit tight and ride the storm out.
Yes, really wild up here, we seem to be just on the edge of the area shown on the weather map so I had hoped we might not be too bad.
Caravan (on the drive) seems OK so far, but I don't think the worst has arrived yet. The wind is roaring over the roof and the tees are thrashing around in the gusts, quite frightening!
Just waiting for OH to come home any minute. Schools are closed and businesses have been told to send staff home, I cannot remember this ever happening before for "a bit of wind".

It is not just a bit of wind Jenn it is the gusts unseen till they come that are worse as you get a false sense of security then one comes straight in whilt you could be battening down yet again. You wonder where the heck it came from. The can swirl and pick up an 300 year old oak tree surrounded by cedars and firs not as deep roots as the oak yet it took it right out od the ground, one gust, ripped it up and tossed it down like a rag doll.Remember what flash floods, flash frosts, can do yet they leave others alone and attack nearby. Weird.
Just be very careful it might be wind throwing something AT you that is has picked up and carried. If it can take and do that kind of damage to a hefty oak tree it can do a heck of a lot more to a smaller lighter human being. Take care everyone as the wind is also travelling & can change direction at anytime.
The last one we had a couple of years ago i had to put a rope over the van as it "slid"around about a foot. Not funny when your out there trying to rope it down.
Well, the wind seems to have finally eased, all quiet outside now.
Van looks OK, has stayed in position and nothing seems to have hit it. Fence seems intact, haven't ventured into the garden, but did not see any damage from in here. One tree further down the street is damaged.
DS lives down in Ayrshire, they were hit hard, so he will need to check his roof tomorrow. Stuff in the garden was blown over and smashed. Seems to have been worse at the coast than here inland.
Yes Jennifer it certainly seems to have died down, got through it in one piece, no damage that I can see, although I did manage to take my son to the minor ailments clinic as he twisted his ankle (a wee minor home incident), no broken bones thankfully - wouldn't have happened if he had been at school!
Just been listening about it all on the news. Glad you managed to get away with no caravan damage, Tracey. Sorry to hear about you son's ankle - perhaps he thinks it's a small price to pay for a day off school?
We certainly didn't see the worst of it. I hope others who got hit hard don't suffer too much damage. It's the hight water that's worrying me rather than the wind. Loch Lomond and The River Leven is 10ft higher than I've ever seen it in my life.
------------- Live every day as if it's your last but not at risk to others :-)
