Hi everyone, it's been nearly 6 weeks since my last caravanning outing and am starting to get itchy feet wanting to go out in the van. This is my first year with the van so have no previous experience of winter caravanning so just after some suggestions on activities what to do with 2 kids aged 2 and 5 if we were to take a trip out with the van. Thanks in advance.

Hi. We also live in Barnsley. We have kids aged 9,6 and 4 and to be honest we love being away in the winter- we dont tend to consiously plan activies when we are away in the winter other than enjoy our time away together without any distractions. But a nice area to go to at this time of year is Ripon as Fountains Abbey (great play area) and Brimham Rocks are lovely in the winter. We tend to do a lot of walking so Castleton is also lovely as you have the walks and, visitors centre, the caves but also plenty of little shops plus our kids enjoyed getting the train from Hope to Edale. But Sherwood forest or Clumber Park are also great for the kids as loads to do. We just love the cosy, lazy mornings and evenings we spend tucked up in the van and the kids are usually happy playing board games, colouring or reading or watching a DVD.

A site with a pool is normally good if it's tipping down, soft play areas etc.  We're moving away from the sites with singing tigers now the kids are getting older, but they did enjoy that phase.

Mind destroying for the parents though.

Ours enjoyed crabbing, beaches etc when they were that age, but could be too cold for that kind of thing.  But we do have quite a few pics of winter beach trips with them.  You get the beach to yourselves this time of year.

I purchased a walking papoose when our two were young which meant we could go out walking for longer distances.  Both kids sat inside the Papoos in their time, and both were absolutely fine in it.  They really seemed to enjoy sitting on your back and having a good look around.  Quiet easily for a couple of hours at a time.

Another vote for Clumber Park from me, either that or a site with ducks! Works every time with our 3 and 6 year old... As long as I remember a van full of bread loafs..
