I have an LCD TV mounted on the caravans TV bracket and was wondering if I should remove it for the worst of the freezing weather during the winter.
We keep the van at home and I do put the vans heating on regularly, but its not left on constantly and I was wondering if it could damage the LCD screen when the temperatures in the van drop during the winter.
With so many vans now having in built tv brackets and often ready mounted TV's, what do most people do?
IMHO you would do more damage by putting the heating on and off. Fluctuation in temperature (i.e. a more rapid fluctuation than that which is 'natural') is generally not a good idea - not just for the telly - it will encourage condensation. Personally I'd take the TV in to be on the safe side so that it's nice and cosy all the time!
As many vehicles have built in LCD devices, dash displays and Satnavs etc I doubt there is any cold issue or our Scandinavian and Canadian colleagues would be screaming about it; just the sort of thing our media would love to take up.
My van's TV is built in and not readily removed and that is in a German van where temperature at 'home' can get a tad cold. There is nowt in the manual under cold weather precautions re the TV.
Taking it inside is probably the most sensible thing to do, but think first about the old boy. During the festive season he may just want to get away from the family for a bit of quiet me time. With his personal ale supply, and pork pies in the caravan's fridge. What is he going to watch?

in storage i think the temperature will fluctuate during the winter from very cold to just warm from the sun,condensation is a tvs worst enemy when not used we take ours out and store in its own bag.

Mine stayed in the van last winter and was ok, even though everything liquid* froze solid (except a bottle of Bacardi).
*That included shower gel, loo blue, shampoo, conditioner, washing up liquid etc. Had to bring it all in and defrost in the washing up bowl 'cos a couple of the plastic bottles had split.
But the telly was ok. It was stored in a bed locker, in a padded bag - the sort you get to out your butties in. (It's only a 10 inch telly). Portable DVD player the same.

If you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel, just keep going till you go round the bend.
If its built in why not put a towel over it. Thats what I have done in an awning before now? And if needs be put moisture traps in. I do this anyway in winter but I use my caravan TV in my bedroom so take it home anyway.
