I was always under the impression that it was taboo to install a light in the gas locker for safety reasons (risk of explosion/fire). Yet just reading CC magazine this month and the write up on the Elldiss says it has a gas locker light. What are your views on this?------------- A barman is just a pharmacist

Never before considered it, but it sounds logical that it might be taboo.
I wonder what kind of light it is that they have put in there.
If it's piped light from a light source else where that could be safe

not sure but it could be a sealed unit switched from inside the van and not the locker itself.------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.

Just looked on Elldis website could not find any reference to gas locker light. If it was special I would have thought it would have been promoted in their literature. I will look further.------------- A barman is just a pharmacist

It could not be a fire risk, if your gas bottle connection was leaking it would go down & out of the bottom of locker, it would not remain in locker & cause an explosion.

From the supply regs,
"No electrical equipment may be installed in a compartment intended for the storage of gas cylinders.

Hi,
We have a 2009 bailey senator california with a gas locker light fitted as standard, this is switched on from inside the van, but the location of the light is pretty useless as it is mounted at the bottom of the locker just behind the bottom door frame lip so if you put anything in the locker it blocks the light.

I wouldn't worry about having a light in there, To be honest, it's a good idea for me as I always have to search around for a torch. The light would only be 12 volt any way & considering engineers work with Oxy Acetelyne wth the gas bottles right next to the gas bottles woth no concerns.

I had a leaky gas valve in the front locker and only realised it when I opened the door and smelt the gas so it can't all fall out the bottom!
12v or 240v they can both create a spark.
Oxy Acetelyne bottles have a number of safety features to prevent flashback and require the operator to be trained to use it,even then there are several incidents each year of flashback and explosions.

I can see an old incandescent filament bulb being a problem, but surely these new led things should be safe and unburstable?

Mine still does! So both gas and battery in the same compartment... Been camping two seasons now in her, not gone up in flames yet!
Must get around to putting in a divider or something between the two - or should I really resite the battery to an inside locker?-------------
