Hi there - we are picking a brand new caravan up February. It is our first caravan and beginning to get excited now!
Anyone have any particular hints and tips on what to look for when taking delivery of a new caravan? We will staying in it overnight at the the dealers and will be going over it with a fine tooth comb but grateful for any practical advice from the more experienced out there.
Make sure that all the blinds operate properly and that all the windows and roof vents open and close properly too plus check that none of the windows have delaminated (the outer window parted from the inner window). If any of them have, they are likely to fill up with water like a goldfish bowl when it rains. I only found this out when I washed down the caravan for the first time with a hose and found that two front windows needed replacing under the warranty due to delamination.
Check here seven posts down. Just a few things to consider

When the van is delivered the floors are covered with plastic this is put down before any inside fittings are put in so it goes under the seats, fire, bed Etc Etc. this is removed by the dealer.Check the flooring check that they have not damaged the lino with their stanley knife. Ours had 3 different lots of damage where the dealership had been a bit enthusiastic with their stanley knife. We didn't notice this until we had removed the carpets (Cream carpet and two border collies don't go) We use machine washable rugs and runners on top of the lino.
Make sure the door is flush and fits properly ours didn't
Make sure the kitchen and the worktop has been screwed to the van and to each other. Ours wasn't. Leading to the drawers falling out and the units being warped. We have just had a full kitchen re fit
If like us you have separate TV back and front and have a surround system where you can put a DVD in the player and watch it on both or either back or front of the van. Make sure it's been wired up to both. Ours wasn't.
I hope this has helped
Enjoy your van and wishing many many happy holidays xx
