Good luck with it all, Katybee! Come back and let us know how you get on!
BTW, I can't reverse with my caravan hitched for toffee! It's not been a problem in the two years I've been towing, although if I can find a couple of strong fellas, they can push my van back into position with their fingertips! LOL!
hummmm ok i like the sound of strong men....lol..thanks Jax...i will come back and say how am getting on what car i ended up with.....and my first trip out......
------------- Very new need all the help i can get...please...thank you :-/
Another "Good Luck" from me too. I doubt we'll meet up, but if I ever see someone on their own with their caravan I will be sure to politely let them know just to let me know if they ever need any help.
It's always nice to get some gratitude on these forums. Just don't be afraid to ask for help if you need it. So many people these days seem all too happy to suffer in silence (me included, I'm the worst for asking for assistance when it's needed).
I hope you enjoy your caravanning, it sounds like it'll be just the thing for you to extend your camping lifestyle, it is just another form of camping, after all.
Thyank you....I am one to ask for help if i need it....forums like this are full of gold tips and help as are the good folk on here glad i found it t

Great, good for you. I thought the max towing weight of 1300 looked a little low, but it's well within the limits for your outfit.
My dad tows with a Peugeot HDI diesel (I think his is a 307, but not sure), they are good engines, very economical.
That price for the tow bar doesn't sound too bad, but is that for the full electrics (which will charge the battery & run the fridge on the caravan, whilst you travel, as well as running the trailer lights)? & also, if your caravan has 2 plugs on the hitch end, you will probably want 2 sockets on the car, as there is now a new single plug & socket system as well, from Europe (just to make things more complicated), which does both jobs.
I expect you'll find a better price with a mobile tow bar fitter anyway, & they'll probably do a better job, as they do it all the time (a lot of dealers only get a mobile fitter in to do the job anyway, as their mechanics don't do many tow bars). Shop around & see what you get. A fitter will be able to advise you on the electrics socket(s) & a bumper protection plate (mustn't forget that ).
So, you must be getting excited now, you're almost there. It can be a daunting thought, the first time you tow. It even was for me, a 32yr old man with plenty of driving experience & who is usually a very confident driver. But once you get the hang of it, it's fine. I just take my time, leave plenty of room, use my mirrors A LOT, & generally just take it easy & don't panic. It's easy to avoid any difficult situations, you just think to yourself, before you turn into somewhere tight or head down a small road, "can I get back out again?"
I'm glad you had a good chat with the caravanner as well. There's nothing to it really.
