On Sunday, I'll be picking up my first ever caravan Off to
Huddersfield where the dealer promises me he'll show me how everything
works, including the awning hopefully . Then to Mexborough to the storage
yard, where it'll be living. We've been watching the weather forecast and it's a bit
windy, but no great dramas hopefully for my first trip. I've towed trailers and driven
coaches in the past, so once I get the feel of it, should be OK.
Pencilling in something for Feb half term (yes, I work in a school, but not a
teacher) for our first outing. Even considered the CC annual, but as I'm an old camping softie needing 'proper' toilets and showers, I might give that one a miss.
Congratulations on getting your first van. We've only had ours since 2010 but we love it. When we picked up our van from the dealers we took it to Clumber park CC site for the night to try it out. Happy caravanning!
Congratulations. I'll never forget the day when we picked up our first caravan - a little bit nervous but very excited. We went straight to a campsite we've used several times so that we could try everything out. A 2 hour journey from the dealers but it was the best thing for us to do so that my husband got his first tow over & done with and we could still remember most of what we'd been told during the handover.

That sounds great. There are plenty of 'old camping softie's' on here - including me! We even like water hook up. Have a good time. We're off out for the first time this year during Feb Half Term - off to Ferry Meadows CC site in Peterborough. Looking forward to it. Congratulations on your 'soon to be' new van!
Hi well done on the first van, brought ours home first and sat with a bottle of wine and toasted it,didn't want to put it away.
Which dealer have you bought from, only live about a mile from Loudhams and a couple of miles from Peter Roberts.
Don't worry about the awning they are not as bad as you think, just have some patience and don't shout at the wife.If you get stuck i am sure there will be plenty of people around to help if you need it.
you will get a food introduction from the dealer - we did take care on that first trip with it especially on the downhill from the dealership it is not very steep but with a van for the first time it will feel it

Try not to stress about the awning. They can be awkward, especially the first time up. I would be really surprised (and impressed) of the dealer actually showed you how to put up the awning. Some have probably never put one up! Just be very careful you don't 'ding' the new van with one of the awning poles - it's easy to do, especially when you are a bit stressed about it. If it's windy, I'd leave it until another day to put up.
If you happen to be at Ferry Meadows at half term, I'll get my wife to put your awning up.
Just brought mine back from service this morning, quite blustery but only really felt the wind on one very open stretch of road.
Go steady and it will be fine.
