Just been up to where we store the caravan, and the battery is totally flat. The battery is only 15 months old..question, can i salvage it by charging it?

Can someone recommend a leisure battery charger... only gonna spend up to £60.

Cheers

You might be able to get it to recover but I would not hold out much hope. The worst thing you can do to a lead acid battery is leave it in a discharged state.

Do you know how long it has been flat for?

Lidl are doing their chargers at the moment, but they won't even look at it if the voltage has gone below 7.5v.

It might be an idea to give it a "jump" from a car battery for a couple of minutes, to try & put some life back into it, then put it on charge with a proper charger.

Here's the links I found & posted on other threads, they're very useful....

The Lidl and the Aldi battery chargers are excellent at recovering batteries but as said earlier the battery has to have some charge in it for the chargers to get started.
The Lidl and the Aldi chargers are £12:99p each so nothing much to gamble with.
All the best with it.

I had a simular problem when I bought my caravan, the battery was completly flat as the caravan hadn't been used for more than 6 months. I put it on my car battery charger (4amp) after 2 days no sign of life so I went to my local caravan dealer and explained about it, expecting to be told I needed a new one, they said it takes at least 5 days to charge up from flat so keep it charging, I did and sure enough after 5 days it was fully charged. That was 2 years ago and it's still ok so they can be saved. I take it off the van in winter and top the charge up every 6 weeks or so.

You say you used the van in December so it went flat in a short time, so there may be a fault, as it's only 15 months old isn't it still under warrenty?

I hope you can get the battery sorted. The next problem will be trying to find out what caused it to go flat in the first place.

UKTech is correct but you can also use one an old transformer car battery chargers for an hour or so just to get it going and than transfer to the of the smart chargers/conditioners. The Aldi/Lidl chargers are very good for the money.

Hi guys

Same problem here, flat battery after being left for a couple of months. I've bought a new battery but don't want the same thing happening again. Could anybody suggest what might have caused this on a Bailey Pegasus? alarm, fridge light or motor mover maybe?

I confess that I always disconnect the battery when we put the van into storage so that there should be no danger of a flat battery. This happened to us after only the second time of using it and we found that we had left the aerial booster on.

I always used to disconnect batteries on previous vans but didn't on this one due to the alarm.

Are most of the above not covered by the 'Master' switch (on a Bailey) though?

I think some investigation  is required now I have a new battery...

I have a Bailey and found it was the airel booster that drained the battery.
