As paul at julie says, you only live once, and as we have been saving for rainy days all our lives,we think it`s time to start and spend it before it`s too late,so no, I don`t think it will slow us down now, only when it`s gone,or when we have,Lol.
------------- Think this year is to follow old meet friends for 2014.
If you cant do someone a good turn, don`t do them a bad one,its nice to be nice you know, and little things mean much more later in life.
Pete.
Absolutely not... It would have to be ill health or similar to stop the wife and I touring and staying in the van, something we both love.
Like some others have posted, neither of us smoke or drink, the children are all grown up now. We are still taking the van to France in the summer and various UK destinations the rest of the year. We are only going to the Dordogne rather than the Riveria this year, but nothing to do with fuel we just fancied a change, It will save on tolls and fuel though!
If the price of fuel dictated how far I was able to tow and enjoy our hobby I would sell the van and stay at hotels, with the cost of caravanning and site fees etc., I am sure it would be cheaper, but like all of us that enjoy caravanning thats not what we want to do and why we do it.
I do think however some of the commercial sites in the UK tourist areas, have put their fees up to ridiculous levels. These need to re-think their price policy, if I was to make any cost changes, it would be to use the club sites more than I do rather than limit how far I took the van to save fuel.
We dont smoke or drink and our pleasure is having a holidays in the van.
For now we will carry on with our holidays, it might be closer to home and will only stop if ill health forces us.
Start our first holiday on May 6th and ends on July 15th.= 10 weeks
Still got to book our September - mid October hols as hoping we may of made Scotland after all. But once again it may have to be lower down. But keeping options open as yet. That is about a 5 or 6 weeker.
You cannot take anything with you either when you pop off to sleep for the long one.
We will be carrying on camping, till the box comes to take me away inside it, to start the old fire up and running., Until them we are ready for the off ,as it cannot come quick enough for us.
We do nothing in between like a lot of others, we are leaving
nothing behind us as we have been told not to,so skiing comes into mind, a great deal.
We can't make our minds up whether to go to France or stay here in the summer, not just because of fuel prices but site fees have gone up too. The site we stayed at last year in Brittany has gone up by about £7 a night but it's still cheaper than an equivalant over here and it's way cheaper than 4 of us flying abroad for 2 weeks in school holidays.
Hopefully fuel prices won't go much higher, a report yesterday said Opec think $100 a barrel is a fair price and that supplies are good even if Iran tried to blockade the channel that tankers need to pass through. I just wish that was reflected at the pumps!
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
