Just after a bit of advice really, I am thinking about changing our existing Single Axle Caravan for a Twin Axle.  Where we store our current caravan we have to turn the caravan 180 degress.  There is some space at the storage site to do this in but not a great deal, the Single Axle caravan isnt a problem as we just spin in on the Axle using the motor mover and all is ok.

My questions are what sort of manoeuvrability can I expect with a Twin Axle Caravan with a Motor Mover I understand it is restricted as the second axle drags and wants to pull the caravan straight. The storage site is grasses and resonably level but not totally. Is it possible to rotate a Twin Axle 180 degrees in a sort of 3 point turn in a confined space or do they need a lot more room to turn around.

My last question is around Motor Movers for Twin Axles. On the existing caravan I have a Enduro Motor mover that has always performed well. This is only rated to 1400kg max so we cannot use it on a heavier Twin Axle. I believe the options are movers on 2 wheels or movers on all 4 wheels.  I presume the 2 wheel mover for a Twin Axel has less of a turning circle than if all 4 wheels have motors each but then there is the added cost and weight.

Can you please advise on a good motor mover for a Twin Axle, what sort of turning circle it would give me to turn it 180 degress, am I better going for 4 Wheel driven motor mover, will it give me better control and a smaller turning circle.

Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

I recently changed from a single to a twin axle I didn't have a mover on the single but have a powertouch awd on the twin  for the simple reason there is not enough room to swing the car round as I reverse the van into its space. I only needto do a 90 degree turn but it turns quite tightly now I've got the hang of it so I shouldn't think you will have any problems with it although it may take a few shunts to do it and at least a 100 amp battery would be best ,hope this of help to you.

We have had Reich twin axle 4wd movers since 2005 and we find them very good indeed, regarding a tight turning circle you will not find anything better, but they are the dearest. As for After Sales Service I cannot comment as I have never had to use it, nor do I know anyone who as.

Another big plus point for Reich is that they have a full European After Sales Service,

robsonalan -

I have twin movers on my van and the turning circle is quite good, only issue I have had has been the side pressure on the jockey wheel. Have stripped off 3 of the tubeless tyres so have swapped for a solid one.

I had the same problem until I changed to a tubed type, which also caters for a far greater load and runs at a max of 57psi.

Thank you all for your responses. It sounds like ideally I need to be looking at a AWD mover which is what I thought. Just need to ensure its isnt too heavy and it is taken into account when loading up.

Thanks for the advice with regards the jockey wheel also. Looks like i need to save up another £2000 for the motor mover as well as the caravan.

Cheers

When you get your caravan mover go to your local dealer, tell him the weight of your movers and ask him to apply to the caravan manufacturer for a MTPLN weight upgrade. I dont know about an Alko chassis but BPW charged £25-00 in 2008 for a new plate
