Hi All,have just had some new fitted removable carpets made for our lunor lexon, not much wrong with the existing, but we decided that we would like two sets, one for when we take the grandkids away with us so we dont have to keep onto them about taking there shoes of,and one set for when we are on our own so we can have a nice bit of comfort,i know the idea of removeable carpets are for that same reason, but when its a bit chilly you cant beat a bit of carpet on the floor,so the new set we have chosen some real nice carpet, but i am thinking at making it even more nicer by fixing underlay to the carpet,i was thinking of useing a spray adhesive to do this, has anyone tried this before,or got any thoughts on this,if so your remarks would be welcome.
Happy Camping, keep up the good work with the site.
I think a thin felt type underlay would be OK, stuck to carpet with adhesive, but, if it gets wet at any time it is harder to dry out. I used a good quality carpet and it does stand up to kids, dogs and me!!!!
I bought a end of the roll piece of carpet and took it along to a local carpet supplier who as a "Whipping Machine" and he Binded all the edges for me using the old carpets as templates. You can by your own edging of the internet which is D.I.Y and its iron on type, then using a glue gun,i think it worked out a bit cheaper, but it seemed to messy for me,with the carpet and the whipping it came to !£150 but that was for a piece of good quailty carpet,it could have been £30 cheaper if i had had a ceaper carpet.
we looked at having a spare set of carpets done . We picked a nice carpet and drew the pattern of the existing carpets and gave them to the carpet guy who the told us the cost of banding them was £1 a foot !!!!! about £40 for the 2 carpets ... he must have seen the look on my face cause he showed me some already done but just oblongs not shaped and half the price so guess what ???? we got 2 of them and just use the best ones when our little niece is'nt with us .

Just be careful to avoid any of the rubber backed underlays if you have laminate floors underneith them, they slip and creep about into ridges when dry, then if you manage to spill anything on them, and the rubber backing becomes wet, they can stick themselves down to the laminate and then leave behind chunks of the rubber when lifted for removal.
Personally I wouldnt use underlay, its bad enough trying to get a single layer of loose carpet to stay in place, nevermind two layers!

Celebrating 37 years of Caravanning in 2019, Recently Considered Retiring, but Totally Addicted for Life!
We bought our caravan in 2003 and it had a fixed carpet. We were worried about taking four small children (then aged between 2 and 7) to live in a field with a self-coloured peach carpet! So we didn't take the manufacturer's polythene off the carpet the first year. Then we didn't take it off the second year either. We've just sold the caravan, nine years from purchase, and - you've guessed it - the plastic covering is still on the carpet!
Now the decision to make is, with our new caravan, will we (a) take the removable carpets into the house and store them till the day we sell it? (b) take the carpets with us but leave the plastic on them? or (c) be like normal people and use the carpets as they're meant to be used?
I wouldn't personally add the extra weight of underlay to our van. Might not okay for a permanently sited van, but just unecessary for a van used for touring. Easier just to buy some luxury slippers!

When we had our caravan we just bought an off cut at Carpetworld for £10 and cut it to fit. We saved the original carpet for when we sold the caravan.
That sounds like a very clever idea! Did the edges fray or did you seal them in some way?
The edges didn't fray.We didn't seal them or anything. When we sold the van after 12 months of using the Carpetworld carpets they still looked OK.A lot depends on what kind of offcut the carpet is.
We put the original carpets back in the van when we put it up for sale. It sold straight away.
