Need a new awning for my first caravan and deliberating over getting a full awning v a rally kampa pro 390. We are a family of four with two kids (8&4). Here are my perceived pro's and con's....
Full awning
Pros - maximum space, presumably a bit more robust(?)
Cons - more expensive, weight, longer to put up, longer stays only
Kampa Rally Pro 390
Pros - weight, quicker to put up, short and long stays, price
Cons - less space, less robust (?)
Tbh leaning towards the rally kampa but will it meet my needs...especially longer stays? Any other pro's or con's?
Same dilema as us, full V's Pro 390. Look forward to seeing your replies.

Hi, we have had full awnings, porch awnings etc. we have just opted for the Kampa 390. The pro was not available at that time.
For us the Kampa fits the bill. Price and ease to erect. It is plenty big enough and we feel we now only need the one awning. If we were on a seasonal pitch (as we were last year) then a sturdy full awning would be our choice, but touring we are glad of the good sized, lightweight, easy to put up Kampa. We have invested in the monsoon poles and the storm straps. It is all personal preference I guess, but we are pleased with our choice.

We ended up getting both - a full NR awning for longer stays, and a Kampa Rally 200 for shorter trips. They both have pros and cons, but in my opinion you can't beat the stability of a full awning in rough weather. For shorter stays, though, the lighweight porch awning will be much easier to handle.
Another vote for Kampa Rally here too, and one advantage of having a porch style awning over a conventional one, is that the porch would more than likely be transferable to another caravan should you ever wish to trade up, saving you some cash in not having to sell the old awning and buy new due to the awning rail size differences.

Much as I like the kampa rally porch awning that we have I wouldn't get the 390 dueto the condensation that we had when we camped in November it was that bad I thought the awning was leaking !!!!
We went to a Rallye 390, wouldn't say it is less robust than a full awning, in fact we don't use any tie downs unless it gets really windy, the front steel struts are very strong. The steel poles are quite heavy though compared to the fibreglass ones we used to have with the Isabella awning, but we think they are a good value alternative to a full awning.

When we bought our van we also bought a full awning. It was really nice to have the space, but a pain to put up and take down. We dreaded the end of the holiday and kept watching the weather so it could be taken down dry. We also had a kamp 260 and used that for shorter stays. Last year we bought a kampa fiesta deeper than the 390 but is 350 in length. We also bought the extension for longer stays. All last year we used the fiesta and didn't miss the full awning. Loved the ease of putting it up and if it rained the so what it was a doddle to dry at home.
We have now sold the kampa 260 and the full awning. The fiesta is really robust, good heavy steel poles. The extension is great, we use it for storeage and have the rest of the awning for our table and chairs etc.
we're having the same dilemma. Our new to us van came with an immaculate steel poled full awning that we've not tried out yet. We have a Kampa Rally 260 for weekends and really like it. I've seen a Rally Pro and the material is much better than the normal Rally. Also like the Sunncamp Acrylic 390 too.
We dont know what to do, thinking we'll take the full awning on our weeks hol in June then if we dont get on with it will sell it when we come home.

Let us know what you decide. We are just debating on what awning to get for our new 2008 Provence as we are selling our previous full awning on ebay (to small for new van). I also liked the suncamp 390 but wasn't sure of having to have the flaps on the outside.....didn't seem right to us! Although we liked the full awning it was too much work to put up and down plus a real pain if is rained and got wet the day you were due to pack up!
Haven't looked at the Kampa ones yet so will make this our next job. We just want something that will be the right size for our van, quick to put up and something we can still sit out in during the summer and big enough for our 1 year old to play in
Yes.. Well new to us! A bit like you in that we got the ranger as our first van and then found out it didn't suit us with a 1yr old (see my other post I put on earlier this evening for the full story!). We popped to Oxford Caravans last week and came across a lovely 2008 Bailey Pageant Provence (5 berth) series 6, one owner from new and full dealer service history. We ended up loosing a bit on the ranger but got a good price on the Provence plus it will come with 4 years waranty insurance which cover water ingress and all the internals, etc.
We are looking to pick it up towards the end of March and think that this layout will suit us much better than the ranger ...........the choice is now what awning, if any, we go for on this van . We have a porch awning so may just try with this for a while but I quite like the new Kampa Pro range.....just need to save up some more money first as the bank account is currently a tad empty!
We too have had lots of awnings- full- small porch- large porch, but last year we bought a Kampa Rally 390, very pleased with it. Easy to erect, and relativly light compared to a full awning. The Kampa is well made and fits extremly well.

don't know if OP has made decision yet? If not and to add to your dilema we went to a shop yesterday and they are waiting for new 2012 Kampa stock to arrive this week, which includes Kampa Rally plus. This is based on Kampa Rally Club in 260, 330 & 390 size but includes an annexe, with inner tent, which is put on left hand end door or an end door if you don't want to use the annexe.
We have got a Kampa Rally 260 which we use for short stays and is so easy to put up, and then last year we bought a full size Bradcot concept awning so we could use for longer stays and poss buy annexe in a year or two for when son is a bit older. However we have only used the full awning twice and like an earlier post we dreaded taking it down. Because we are relatively new to caravan it took us ages to put it up and take it down both times. We really like the idea of the 390 Rally Plus to the point I am probably going to advertise on here to try and sell the Bradcot full awning and go and order the Rally Plus!
Went for Rally Pro 390 in the end. Hopefully will get early this week and will have a go putting it up next or the following weekend if weather ok. Still have my eye on ebay for a full awning but not really looking seriously
