We have just received our RAC Arrival renewal and the premium has gone up by £46! Got straight on the phone to see if we could get a better deal and they instantly reduced it back to the same as last year's premium! I think it's disgusting but we are well used to it with insurance renewals etc.

I am still going to have a look around to see what else is available though.

Why do you think its disgusting? If a car had £10k on the windscreen sticker & you knocked 'em down to £9.5k you'd be quite happy. I fail to see why people get so steamed up about having to bargain on insurance prices when on anything else from cars to car boot sales they are happy to try to knock the price down.

Who said I was steamed up?! Like I said, I am well used to it with insurance renewals and never automatically renew without having a look round.

However as an EXISTING customer I think they should give me their best price without having to ring up! Slightly different scenario to those you mention, I think!

Its a classic trick, give you a low price in year 1 and then hike it up in year 2 and hope people don't move! We have moved insurance companies every year for the last 10 years on the house and car, I have found you get a far better deal and moving isn't hard work with all the various price comparision sites out there!

Ditto dazzer, but I didn't realise I could get such a reduction without even having to move!

Have a look at autoaid for your breakdown cover,I have used them for several years after  RAC increases.I found them on the moneysaving expert website,I pay £37 for a year and that includes wifey and the van, they send a local firm from  wherever you breakdown, then you pay the bill ( I use a credit card ) then download a claim form and claim it back.I have only had to use them once but my son has called them several times, and never had a problem.Well worth a look

If you read carefully it says IF YOU VEHICLE BREAKS DOWN, not if your Caravan or Trailer breaks down.

I recently started a thread on breakdown cover as mine was due. Be careful and make sure you ask the company you choose specifically and carefully; Many will say they cover you for the caravan but they mean they will rescue your caravan ONLY if the problem is with the vehicle whilst its hooked up. So if you caravan is the problem they will not help.(actually I assume that also means they wouldnt rescue the caravan if the problem meant your car developed a problem whilst on holiday and the caravan was on site)

Other companies also had other limitations in the small print eg length, width etc.

I ended up with CC mayday

I think you will find when breakdown says covers caravan you will find only if towcar is broken down and the caravan is tow-able.Ask the question (If my caravan wheel bearings go and it is not tow-able is it covered).I think you will find that unless you belong to breakdown cover through either of the caravan clubs, they will recover but you will be charged for it.
