Wife and I went on th CC caravanning course this weekend.
I have towed a FC trailer for a couple of years avoiding reversing somehow and my OH has never towed. We got our 'van last year and we both wanted to learn to manoeuvre it with confidence.
Well, it was worth every penny, only six on the course so plenty of towing time, really nailed it over the two days - can't wait to be able to use the car to get the van on to a pitch next time we go out!
Really enjoyable couple of days, instructor was very patient and knowledgable.
Sounds like it was very worth while! I've had a trailer tent and did reverse it but am getting a caravan now. Have booked on C&CC towing course in march and looking forward to it.
I would thoroughly recommend it to everyone who like me did everything to avoid reversing. I had towed a trailer and folding camper for years but always seemed to get in an awful mess reversing so when I ordered the caravan I did the course. Ended up wondering why I hadn't done it years ago!
This has made up my mind...with lightweight trailer tents we have been part of the "unhitch and spin" school of reversing. Perhaps it is time to join the grown ups.

Wow it must be good if they can teach you to reverse without looking back lol
I wanted to do the course too, but the dates for the northwest are in july and I would have liked to have used the caravan before then (with confidence)

None of the courses were near to us either - we travelled over 80 miles to attend, but we found a nice B&B, farmed out the kids and made a weekend of it.
That sounds a good idea, Ive got a tent so I could use that, weather permitting lol
Its a shame we have to travel to a course, Ime sure they are just as popular in the north as the south. I saw an advertisment on the back of a van yesterday they does courses in my area, so may give them a ring to see how much it cost. There was one in macclesfield, lancashire and that cost 145.00.
WOW! just found out £408 for a 2 day course.
Do they teach you to reverse onto a pitch where the CC warden insists the peg is in the centre of the van?! My pet hate, so easy to change the pegs to offside rear of the van.
Without being big headed I can reverse my van anywhere but aiming at a peg you cannot see is tricky. Last time I got it near enough then moved the peg to suit! I suspect I am not the only one to do this
There are so many people on the road who cannot manoeuver a caravan and should not be on the road they give caravanners a bad name. Probably why they have changed the law. I was in the isle of wight a couple of years ago eager to catch the ferry and got caught behind a muppet trying to reverse his van into an passing place to allow a rig coming the other way. After half an hour I had had enough and confronted him. His reply was he he he im not very good at this. I suggested strongly to him that he got some training as he was the worst rig driver I had ever met. I then told him to get out of his car in which I got in and reversed into a safe position explaining every manouver. He never even said thank you and shot off.
By the time I got to the ferry I had missed it and had to wait for the next one but saw him just driving on to the ship poetic injustice.
