hi all, is it a little to early to refill the water system on the van yet, or do you think there might be another hard frost ?????? reason i ask is we are going on rally in 2 weeks time and i dont want to leave it to the last minute,
We are going on a rally in two weeks time as well but my water system is still empty at the moment. As my caravan is in storage I don't want an unnecessary trip due to a change in weather temperature so I'm leaving mine till I actually need it. It's best to be safe than sorry if we have another hard frost during the meantime and like the post above said, it's best to have the water fresh if possible.

far too soon, there could be another frost.if no water is available on your rally do it the day before.i make a point of not carrying any water on board as it can lead to instability and the fittings are not strong enough to hold the weight on tow, as said it needs to be cleaned out with milton and fresh water and then drained off.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.

Are you not gonna flush it out first ?
I always sterilise the system, barrels and pump and then flush it all out every year with puriclean before we use the caravan at the start of the season. I usually sterilise my barrels again half way through the year as well.

Why not wait till you arrive to fill the system? Surely al that it requires is that you have to pump about 15litres of water into the van before it comes out of the taps.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
Iv`e just cleaned and sterilised mine with Puriclean, its sitting now full of clean water, and will be flushed out twice more before using.
------------- Think this year is to follow old meet friends for 2014.
If you cant do someone a good turn, don`t do them a bad one,its nice to be nice you know, and little things mean much more later in life.
Pete.
yeah,but in a M/home,only travel with a few Gall`s on board,to make a cuppa,and flush the loo,if we stop at night.

I was actually aiming that question at the OP, but I'm glad you're not touring with full tanks.
I'm pretty sure the OP is using a caravan, which is a different kettle of fish. I would think towing a caravan with full tanks is a definite no-no???

I do not generally do it but have done occasionally, 45 litre internal tank plus truma hot water full, and to be jonest it made not one iota of differenc.

Allways use Puriclean,it cleans the pipes and sterilises them, also would never dream of driving with a full tank of water, 110 Ltrs is mine.

Firstly, I agree with comments above: use Puriclean not Milton.
Secondly, I would wait until I get on site before filling up the water system. We fill up and drain down everytime we arrive and depart from the site. Carrying water means (amongst other things), extra weight.
I only carry a small ammount DSB,as my toilet is direct electric flush.
