Hi 4strocertwin, Can’t fault you there, a great idea when I first discovered the introduction of the policy and posted on here last February, it was the answer to the two policy dilemma, now has been ruined by economics and bureaucracy, that is a great pity as it gave peace of mind and reassurance, that if the worst happened the very people who needed help most would not have the additional recovery expense after using all their Mobility allowance leasing the car, not doubt this could cause a few disabled caravanners to give up caravanning altogether.

Hi Les,No not included, according to the documentation wording says “Where European Cover has been taken out” that would suggestEuropean Cover is an Optional extra, which it dose state later on in the booklet, also states:- ( hire car cannot be guaranteed).
For non proprietary vehicles (Trailers/Tent trailers/Caravans) no description of non proprietary vehicles, (I would think it meant home made or altered vehicles).
For non propriety vehicles: No Age limit, Weight limit 3.5 tonnes, Length limit 7.5 meters. Width limit None.
For Proprietary vehicles: (Manufactured vehicles) No Age, Weight, Length, Width Limits.
“Where European Cover is taken out, the towed non motorised vehicle(s) are only covered if you are carrying a serviceable spare wheel and tyre as detailed in your current breakdown terms of membership provided by RAC”.
These Terms and Conditions of Membership are associated to the Mobility Leased car users for the Caravan upgrade, as for the RAC’s normal insurance and recovery policies I cannot comment on, though I would suspect that with the Important changes to Terms and Conditions recently they would be right across all policies, you would need to clarify this with the RAC themselves, as I am a member of the public and nothing to do with the insurance industries. Hope that has helped.

Hi Les, Before you make any decision about the upgrade policy look at the findings on my post bottom of page four, and compare answers giver by RAC regarding special equipment to recover caravan if needed, the European cover may vary ?. Good luck let us know how you get on.

Well, well. Have tried to take out the upgrade today.
Call 1 - the number on Motability's website - After a considerable wait - 'sorry, this isn't the correct number. they are all busy, can we take a conract number to call you back'? ME: 'no I'm in and out of meetings all day and so I need to make the contact, can you tell me the number so I can ring'? RAC: 'Sorry, we only use internal numbers so I don't know'!
Call 2 - the number back on page 3 of this thread - after another considerable wait -'No this isn't the right number, I'll just put you through' - phone goes dead and I'm cut off.
Call 3 - Motability Customer Services - 'I'll just give you the number'.
Call 4 - The number from Motability - 'Oh this is the complaints department, I'll just put you through'.
The put through - 'Hello RAC Motability'. Me:- 'Hooray, I want to take out the caravan upgrade on my motability cover' RAC - 'Oh I'll need to go n find out about that ..............................' Oh you'll need to speak to someone at the RAC'. Me: 'I thought you were the RAC (getting really annoyed now as I've just given her a load of details and been on the phone for a while); 'Oh no, you've come through to Motability Operations, you'll need to speak to the RAC. I'll just put you through to the RAC, please hold'!
25 minutes later: Finally someone who knows what they are talking about and £40 later I'm covered!
PS - for anyone interested, I asked the cost of UK and European cover and it's £70.
This has taken me about an hour and a half to get sorted today and I still can't tell anyone on here what number they should ring!
Although ours isnt a Motorbility car, im still in a similar situation as the manufacturers free breakdown cover does not include cover for any breakdown or recovery for the caravan. Because of this, we have registered with Mayday Green Flag, on their top level of cover which gives the homestart for car and caravan, chauffer cover, accomodation cover and all the usual breakdown and recovery services with change out of £100 for a years cover.
I am disabled myself, and my OH is elderly, so a good level of service is essential, and on the three occasions that we have needed a call out, the service has been highly efficient and excellent value for money, they even cover Motormover breakdown.

Celebrating 37 years of Caravanning in 2019, Recently Considered Retiring, but Totally Addicted for Life!
The phone number I have used successfully for several years is 0800 0927119. If you hear a menu of options you have been diverted by the RAC system and you might as well hang up and try again later. If the human that answers doesn't understand tell them you need somebody in the Corporate dept which I think is based in Bristol. There is also a discount for Camping and Caravanning Club members.
