My husband lost his company car last year which we used to tow our caravan when he was made redundant last year.
We have found a seasonal pitch but my car isn't big enough to tow it from Wrexham to Conwy. We need to get it there on Weds but having trouble finding a van/car company that will us to tow a caravan with it.
We only need this for a morning or day & didnt think we would have a problem. Please can anybody locally suggest a company that allows this?
Theres a national shortage of hire cars with tow bars fitted, and a lot of companies refuse to fit them to their fleets due to the increased risk of novice towers having an accident or trying to tow a totally incompatable outfit.
Even if someone was kind enough to offer to tow it for you for the cost of the petrol, all sorts of insurance issues start to raise their head both for the caravan being towed (which may be insured for owners use only) or for the towcar who may be viewed by their insurers as doing it for some kind of gain or reward.
The best bet would be to find an independent mobile home transport service and get a quote for the job from them. There are a few listed in the Rhyl area not too far up the coast from Conwy. It might also be worth asking the operator of the seasonal pitch if they know of or use anyone locally to do their transport work.
We spend quite a lot of our caravanning time around the Conwy area ourselves, but always go to the same CL as we have done for over 20yrs!

Even the Caravan Club have trouble sourcing cars with towbars which they need for their insurance services. I was told they have a choice of three companies in the UK so if you are a member it might be worth giving them a ring. However I suspect that to hire a suitable car with a towbar could be fairly expensive.
I'm not familiar with the area, distance involved or the route but, if you can get a firm to tow your van there for you for just over £200 inc Vat I'd consider doing that. You don't get a lot of transport for that sort of money these days & you could always ring them & aski f they'd consider giving you a discount, if you don't ask, you don't get.
As long as they're fully insured and prepared to put the van right where you want it on your new pitch, considering the job will be done for you saving you hiring & insuring a vehicle plus putting fuel in it, I'd grab the chance to get the job done.
