How do you deter vermin from your caravan, Ive been told that they cause a right mess, but having no electricity into the van whilst in storage I cant use a sonic deterrent.

we've not had a problem with mice before (touch wood) however one caravan we sold and delivered to the couple was found to have a mouse in the front locker when we emptied it. Be interested to see what other vanners use

I've used a battery operated sonic deterrent this year for the first time and also use one in the shed at home. I've still had the occasional mouse at home but nothing in the 'van. Can't say if they have just been keeping out of the way or if the device has worked.
We keep our caravan in storage and had a problem with a field mouse in our old caravan that nested in a shoe box that was under a locker and believe it ot not it was feeding on doggy chew sticks that we kept in another locker. Although it made a mess with plastic bad rippings and mice droppings luckily no furnishings had been nibbled at. Since having this caravan we bought a battery operated device exactly the same as the link what michael has posted and it has actually solved the problem although a lesson learned as well not to store any paper, cardboard or anything edible that they can chew on. Basically they are looking for 5 star accommodation with warmth, sleeping facilities plus a stock pile of food that will keep.
Clean clean and clean again. Leave nothing in the van thats edible or attracts rodents. Pasta, cereal, doggie chews, pack of crisps and nuts Etc Etc. So easy to leave dry food behind but mice just love it

If they want to get in they will. wether there is food or not.ours was completely empty but still got in.didnt cause any damage but had to disinfect everything as mice are incontinent and leak as they move.
They seem to like chewing on Fairy Liquid bottles with the inevitable consequences. I've never found the sonic devices to be effective and prefer to use use traps if a potential problem is suspected and then check them frequently. In storage make sure your caravan is more difficult to get into and has less for them to feed on than the caravan next to yours. The problem with any of the poisons is that the mice or other rodents (rats) have a nice feed and possible move the poison around the caravan and then curl up and die in the most inaccessible places. Waste water pipes are a favourite for mice to crawl into and die leading to a lovely blocked pipe that is difficult to clear.

never had any bother touch wood yet there are hundreds of the lttle blighters come into our huts we can have mice every day of the week in the traps ,ive three dogs mind you so that might deter them as well ,we did have eight in the house last year i keep the dogs dry food in a big tupperware type box and got up one morning to the floor covered in what looked like snow ,they had actually chewed through the lid through the night ,so kept catching them in the traps ,went up to the loft to get christmas decorations and what a feast they had with the baubbles and polyestyrene ,i got my deccies out and there was a big pile of bakers dry dog food ,so trap in the loft and got the last mouse ,yet not one in the caravan
I did read that mothballs were a good deterrent - anyone tried them? or do they make the van stink so much that mice are the better option?
have tried battery powered sonic thingy, and mouse mint; to no avail - little buggers still get in for a wander. no food, bar-be-que left in van; but this year forgot a pack of paper napkins in a drawer over the heater.
Touch wood we've not had any so far, although there are mice about where we live, but I think judging by the entrails and headless bodies often lying about my four cats are earning their keep.

Can't recall ever having a mouse get into any caravan we have had (touch wood), where would they get in?
Every air vent has mesh gtids and the vents for gas heating and water are not big enough.
Mice can get through very small holes/openings that we think might be impossible, I was sat in my car and saw a mouse climb up and through the small hole in an air brick outside a neighbours house.
Mice are really flexible they can go so flat and small and slide in the tiniest of places you'd be suprised, cunning clever creatures.
