Looking through the archives last year I read how another Clubman Sb owner was confused about running the Alde heating system. Well the latest documentation that came with our new van is still as confusing. I have managed to clarify the digital control panel which is described more clearly in a file on their web site
" alde_3010-213_quickstart.pdf " This leaves me with the question of bleeding. The manuals we were given all show a large plastic filler cap on top of the reservoir with what looks like "a pump on a stick." We haven't got that. There's a thin tube sticking out of the top that looks like a breather of sorts and the actual reservoir seems to have a flat shiny metal plate/cap with a couple of small wires attached. It doesn't feel like a screw-on cap and as it is so far down inside it doesn't appear to be the sort of place to top-up with antifreeze/water. Any ideas folks?

Any chance of putting a photograph of it in your 'gallery' so we can more safely understand?

Many Alde systems don't have the simple circulating pump supported off the reservoir's filler cap, mine is mounted on a 'rubber' elbow hose off the boiler itself. The reservoir mounted pump is generally seen in the small to medium sized systems, the in-line pump in larger systems. [bigger vans requiring more 'head' to send the fluid round at an adequate rate.]
My reservoir has two small bore pipes in the neck near the cap, one a vent the other an overflow routed down and through the van's floor. Mine has no electrical connections on the reservoir or its cap; could yours be some level sensor?
I do fill and top-up the system through the cap on the reservoir as it is the highest point in the system.
If I can see a photo I might be more able to help.

JTQU, Thanks for your help but the reply I got from Jennifer and Kjell NN completely answered my question.
They have posted some really excellent photos which fully explains the construction of the reservoir. I had not realised that the top of the plastic housing was separate and it's removal revealed the parts shown in the Alde manuals. If anyone is interested you'll find the photos have now been added to an earlier post started a year ago (ref. Alde heating also in a Lunar Clubman Sb.) Yeah it was March 2011 and I did't twig it at first. But it is still current in that manufacturers still don't foresee the complications that oldies like me can make out of their 'clearly' worded destruction manuals. Thanks again folks.
