Hi, I've already post this on the trailer/folding camper forum but I thought someone in this forum may have some advice for us........we have a conway cardinal and over the winter months we have managed to lose our keys, the door was left open and we can remove the locks that hold the hard top down but we can't get into the front storage box......unfortunately we are due to go to Blue Dolphin on Friday and our gas bottles and the bar that we use to wind the hard top up are in the box.......has anyone got any advice on what we can do.
Many thanks
Nicki

Was it the same key that fit both the door and the front locker? If so, take the lock off the door and take it along to a caravan accessory shop. They should be able to get the number of the lock, there are not that many for that kind of lock, and you can get replacements. If they were not the same, you will need to replace the door lock, and probably have to drill out the front locker ones, and then make some alternative kind of fastener/lock.
How do you take out the barrel without damaging the housing?

If it is a Hartel lock you remove the circlip and the cylinder pulls out. Some other types have a spring loaded pin you press down to allow the cylinder to pull out.
If the locker is locked the only way to remove the barrel is to frill it out. You should then be able to flick the tumblers out and turn the bits left in the back of the lock. You then need a new barrel.
We took the lock off the door that used the same key and dismantled it but there isn't a code on the barrell....so it looks like drilling out the front box lock is our only option :-( Is it likely to damage the locker front?
Thanks for all your replies guys.

A strange suggestion, and possibly a long shot.......but do you know anyone who knows anyone (if you get my drift) that knows how to pick locks......
Possibly ask the local police?! Or I'm sure you've tried it but locksmith.....

If you have the lock out, just go along to your nearest caravan dealer they will be able to try keys most dealers keep a full range of keys. The easiest and cheapest way.
Hiya , as has been said just take the lock that youy took off to your dealers and they can try the keys that they stock till they find the one that fits then just buy it and try it in your front locker and the jobs a good 'un as they sday.
