Good morning everyone! Wonder if anyone can help with this one please? OH and I can remember seeing in one of the caravan magazines a report an on item which, when on site, could be fixed to the caravan towing hitch and would provide secure locking for bikes. It takes the form of a bracket which goes onto the towing hitch (the actual caravan lock can then be fitted on top) and then a loop either side which the bikes are "driven" into and locked in place. Sorry if the description isn't very good but we have "googled" extensively and cannot see it anywhere and wondered whether anyone on the Forum either had one or could recall seeing it advertised anywhere. We thought it would be a great idea if we wanted to take the bikes with us but didn't want to put up the awning and so they could be safely left on site. Have thought about trying to secure them to the caravan chassis but as we are not as young as we were, it may be a case of being able to lock them on but then not being able to get up again!! Oh dear, what it is to be getting on in years!! Would apreciate any help with trying to identify the piece of equipment we are looking for - thanks. Jenny
Could you not buy a standard towball and have a U-bracket welded to it? Then lock this into the hitch, lean the bikes against the A-frame, and fit a 1.5 metre Thatcham rated chain through the U-bolt and the bike frames.
We simply use a nice long cable threaded through a caravan or car wheel spoke and of course the bikes and secured with the short cable lock we carry with the bikes;
If towing a caravan, if you haven't got a 4 wheel drive with a massive tow ball weight limit, your probably better off putting them on the roof arn't you?
Tony B52 you are not reading the thread they want a specific piece of kit that fits into the van tow hitch thats why I said Maxxraxx they could make something for them.

A tip when securing bikes with a cabled bike lock - put the cable as low as possible. Makes it more difficult for potential thiefs who have to bend down. True
Thanks to everyone for their helpful comments which we are now considering as to which we feel would be the best option. Yes, thanks Alan that is exactly what we were thinking of in the original posting but, unfortunately, their website is currently down whilst being updated. When it is back in operation, we will check this out and compare along with the other responses above. Thanks to all - from Jenny.
As the item you are thinking of fits into the hitch, it will have to be at the front of the caravan. On some pitches you may not have the length to the put the bikes there.
We use a thatcham approved bike lock that we loop round the arm of a rear steady & then lean the bikes against the corner of the van.

Yes I also cant see the rational behind using a device in the hitch when the van has so many 'free' and more use flexible alternative 'strong points' to fix too.
Feel its a product looking for buyers rather than one that is needed; more weight more clobber?
