We collected our caravan out of storage a few days ago to et it ready for this weekend.
Today while sat in the garden i heard someone shout over the back gate. I went out to the front door to be confronted by 2 men, 1 sat in a flash car and the other standing appeared from behind our caravan.
He told me his name (which i cant remember) and said they were having a look about the area and was wondering what we were doing with the OLD caravan!! Its a 2001 elddis oddysey and not what i would call old. He asked if i wanted to sell it and when i said no we use it for our holidays he looked very confused then asked how long we had had it..
He said sorry to bother you then went and got in the car where they sat for a few inutes discussing something. Couldnt get the number plate as couldnt see the front or rear plate.
Really worried now. Its insured and has good wheel lock and hitch lock on but when the car is not here is not blocked in.
Ok thankyou i will ring them. Was abit taken back by it, he was having a good look around it.
Cheeky sod didnt look like our traveling friends to me, but i have no clue. Going to get the othe half to take it back into storage till day before we go away
Just got off the phone with the police, she didnt seem to bothered at all just took afew details and said if they get any more calls they will let me know
I would be more inclined to check your house security - you have told them you use it for holidays so if it's off the drive they will assume your house is empty.
This happened to us last year two guys knocked on our door and asked if we wanted to sell the van , my Husband was suspicious and very bluntly replied does it say for sale on it ? no said the guy, so why ask and do you knock on peoples doors and ask them if their car is for sale even though its not advertised ? no said the guy, enough said then, said my husband he then made his excuses and left sharpish, we never heard anything since but it did put us on our guard for a while .

Hopefully if they were intending to be up to no good the last thing they would do is introduce them selves in a way you might be suspicious and take a very good note of them?
I had exactly the same question asked very many years ago and they openly said they were travellers and really liked my then brand new Castleton. Nothing untoward followed my polite reply that it was not for sale
Had them knock our door last year asking if our Passat was for sale (braces & a Transit, figured they were travellers) - told them no but they kept asking about it - were on our guard for a while and made sure we blocked it in with the company car each night.
Had a very similar experience this week, brought van out of storage on sun to do a few jobs on it ready for long weekend fri to mon, parked it on the drive, neighbour who works nights informed me three men in a transit pick up sat outside for about half hour before posting flyers through all letterboxes in cul-de-sac asking for any scrap metal items. Needless to say van back in storage same night,on a brighter note finaly got rount to regestering with CRIS who informed me they have got an offer on where for around £35 you get one of their kits with a new electronic tag & coded dots with your vin number to stick all around caravan that can be picked up on police scanners

The other thing they could be doing is watching until you go away and then they could break in to your house.
If that was their intention would they not have kept their faces well out of sight and not invited you to be able to identify them?
