We were supposed to be going away this morning but have tried to put the van on the car and the mover is working but if we move the caravan forwards it makes a terrible noise and is struggling. if we put it into reverse its ok and sounds normal. We have taken the mover away from the wheels and it seems to be working ok without the pressure of the wheels. We cant take it away as it could be dangerous. The dealers arent in as its Good |Friday does anyone have any idea what it could b? The van is only 20 months old so it shouldnt be anything that has worn.
We have taken the mover off and tried to move it manually we can move it forwards but not backwards my hubby seems to think that the brakes have seized any ideas?
Ours has sometimes made a squeeling noise when moving, we fished out a few particles of gravel out of the casing, but when we asked our service centre they said it probably needed lubricating, as the three times its been in for service since we fitted it, it had not been touched, as its actually an 'add-on' to the main service at a cost of £25, where we mistakenly thought it would be included.
Having said that, ours still worked ok apart from the noise, so we just carried on using it until we got it in for its service, what make of mover do you have anyway?

It could be that a brake lining has come away from the shoe. It would be jamming in the brake drum when you roll the van one way but not jamming when rolled the other way.
I don't really know what your problem actually is but this is my guess.
If you are still having problems when moving the caravan manually without the mover engaged then the problem will be with the caravans brake system, and not with the mover.

Take it for a spin around the block for a couple of miles and back to base. Check to see if the wheels are hot, if they are the brakes are stuck on. A bit of aerosol brake cleaner might do the trick. WD40 at a push.
Had the most incredible noise from mine at low speeds once. It was a pad in the integrated anti-snake device that was grating against the towball, so check that's working ok if you have one.
Have someone tow slowly whilst you walk alongside to see if you can see where the noise is coming from.
My powertouch mover started making a terrible noise when reversing the van. Got in touch with them and they sent a fitter the next day. Both rollers were shot, the bearings had broken to bits. Full marks to powertouch and there 5yrs no quibble warranty.
------------- live for today as tomorrow ma never come.

Don't spray any kind of "magic cure" on your brakes, least of all WD40. This may well stop the noise, but will also stop the brakes functioning.
As someone has already mentioned, it sounds like the lining has come away from the shoe. You could remove the drum to investigate, but you should really use a new one shot nut to reassemble it, which you can possibly get at a caravan dealers (they will most likely be open through the bank holiday as they will do good business from caravanners who forgot things, broke things or are taking advantage of the time off work to look at new caravans and accessories)
I would expect the one shot nut to be in stock at a dealer as they probably use a lot of them for servicing. A set of new brake shoes might be pushing your luck a little bit too far though.
Out of interest, has it been serviced very recently, it could be that the brakes are over adjusted.
Thanks for your replies. It was serviced 11 months ago. I have been in touch with the dealers and someone is coming to look at it on Wednesday. called the Caravan Club this morning to tell them we couldnt go and the warden was quite shirty. She said you know what will happen next time. I was quite upset as we have never cancelled before she said we will be penalised.

Aologies, I meant to add that WD40 was for the handbrake handle part where the cable runs into it, if it was seized up from being left on all winter!
I hope you can get it sorted! I'm glad to hear that the CC are doing something at last about everybody overbooking (the reason I'm not a member) but it does seem a bit OTT in your particular case!
