I've got a smile on my face reading about these gas hoses. I used to work for British Gas years ago, and we had as part of our kit some huge gas burners, run off a rubber hose from large LPG bottles. Not once can i recall any of us ever having these hoses inspected or replaced in all the time i worked there.
I'm not saying for a minute that folk should dismiss the idea of replacing their vans hose for the sake of a few quid based on my anecdote. But i've a feeling theres a bit more life in these hoses than the manufacturers would want us to believe.
And i could tell you some right stories about the gas pipes in your back garden, but it wouldnt be fair to give you sleepless nights!
Rubber deteriorates when subjected to petroleum products, LPG is a petroleum product that displaces the plasticises in the rubber, this causes the cracking and perishing of the rubber, the higher the pressure the bigger the problem.
Not all pipes are created equal so some will last longer than others, the age thing starts when the pipe is fitted if! it has been stored correctly
