Not having a shower in our van we have to use site showers we allways clean down before and after use as you never know who was in there before us i take a spray cleaner with me and just wash everything down in the shower arie and mope were muddy feet have been if the mop buckets minging a quick word to the one site staff ususly sort that out as i cant lift it to clean it out. we always have shower flipflops in the caravan that are only ever used in the shower.
It depends on the sites you go to, a lot of the big family sites don't have mops and buckets, Farm type sites vary, but more and more seem to have new and well made shower facilities, and most CC, and CCC sites seem to.
If there are mops and buckets there we use them, though agreed the water is often dirty, and not too sweet smelling. Not to clean up after yourself is inconsiderate to your fellow campers. Why should the next user have to clean up after the former.
As for the British public, we have our fair share of slobs I suspect, and as Caravaning grows as a holiday choice it is attracting some great campers, but it would appear a disproportionate amount of slobs unfortunately.
If I dont know about the mop and bucket and there must have been thousands of others that had no idea new to caravanning like myself, how does that make me a slob? If there is such an expectation to use the mop and bucket why is there never a polite sign informing campers to do so? When I shower the water and soap suds tend to run off to a drain. The floor is only in contact with your feet so what does it matter if somebody uses a mop and bucket?
I have to ask those offended by the floor not being cleaned what are YOU doing in the shower to warrant such thorough cleaning to be required in the first place.
I personally mop around or squeegee if there is one available, but again, I also wear flip flops in the shower on campsite, firstly because I've got a verucca so I don't want other people to risk getting one and secondly because I don't want others to have to walk into a shower cubicle covered in mud etc.
I've got two good stories from last year, one being from Lickpenny Lane Caravan site in Derbyshire. It has a little fitted bath for the kiddies with a bit of a shelf in so that they can sit either in the deep end or shallow end. My DD loves a bath, so we had to use it. For the first 3 nights I kept on getting there and there was a thick dirty ring around the bath, but I clean before and after we any type of bath using proper bathroom spray. On walking around the site after a few days we only saw one other caravan with a child small enough to use the bath and they did look a bit slobbish i.e. leaving a crushed beer cans on their own pitch when they went off for the day etc. Anyway on the 4th and last night I was coming out of the kids bathroom with my DD and the woman from that pitch crossed my path with her son and she said, 'oh, isn't this kids bathroom great with it having a little toilet and the bath is always really clean when we use it and I leave it in a right state because my son is a muck magnet!' I said, yes, it's normally me that cleans it before my DD gets in it. By heck did she blush - dirty so and so.
Another one was at at site in Flamborough (can't remember its name now), but in the ladies showers they weren't the cleanest, nor the dirtest I've seen, but I did look up to rinse my hair out and on the top of the dividing wall was a used sanitary towel, left there unwrapped. Now, there is absolutely no excuse for that, you can't assume that somebody else gets rid of them!
Some people are filthy pigs, but if I get into a shower and their is a bit of mud/talc/bubbles from showergel or shampoo i don't worry too much because I've got my flipflops on.
Interesting post this,
One of our favourite sites has combined shower, WC, and washing cubicles, and these can get very messy, mainly with grass and torn toilet paper etc. A brush and shovel would be more useful than a mop!
My OH likes to wait till she sees the cleaners leaving, then she goes for a shower.
I always wear flipflops anyway as I am diabetic and can't afford to get infections.
Like many previous posts I think mopping out is mainly for effect, especially on club sites, where it seems to be a hanging offence to be seen not to comply with the rules.

Get yourself the cheap rubber crocs from a shoe shop. We both have diabetes2 and my Bob has awkward high instep feet, but another size larger than usual and it works great. BUT it is the coverage that is better than flipflops as you have no protection around your feet, whereas the crocs do protect you more, including easier to walk over rough ground.. Try then see how they are for you. You may be surprised how comfortable they are and the cheap ones are lightweight also.
I have read all the remarks with interest - but have to say Stroake surely when you are at home you clean up after yourself why not do it when you at camp after all it is just common courtesy. Leave it as you expect to find it - that has always been the camping code.

I obviously do clean up after myself and I am fortunate enough to have a good wife that cleans the house spotlessly too. With regards to site showers, after I have used them I ensure that there are no suds, no hairs on the floor but this does not entail using a dirty mop and bucket but an extended rinse of my body using the shower. If I was in a shower block queuing for the shower and the bloke in front of me held me up to reach for a mop and bucket to perform a needless cleaning routine I would not be impressed.
As it is only my feet in contact with the floor I am not bothered and nor should any other campers in my opinion if I use a shower floor and it has not been rigorously mopped after each use. If my cleanliness expectations were that high I would book a night in the Hilton rather that Joe Bloggs's Caravan site. If there was a sign politely requesting me to mop that would be a different matter and I would duly oblige.
As for verrucca sufferers I am sure that I recall the onus is on them to wear a verrucca sock and that is their responsibility to protect others from this condition.
I always squeegee the shower after I come out and my children do too. there are a lot of people that don't but I shall not let it worry me. We always wear our crocs in the shower, gives them a good clean too
I've even got the kids picking up stray litter too! All about personal choice I think, some people have more consideration than others.
Im at Witches Craig Stirling just now the site is always kept imaculate as well as the shower blocks.Went to the gents this morning and was greeted by water coming out of one of the showers. Some "Clat" had never cleaned up after themselves blocking the drain with grass ( i can only guess they cleaned boots or something in it )Took me a good 20mins to swab up the water with the bucket and mop left there for that purpose.I was about to empty it when it slipped from my hand putting the lot back on the floor...i had to start over again
