Did anybody mention putting chock(s) on the wheel(s) before removing the handbrake, even if you are on a slight slope?? We always do this before putting down the steadies.
I'd leave the awning if you can and attempt to do this on another trip....it's bound to end in tears first time around. When you have worked out where all the poles fit, use different coloured tape to mark what goes where and this helps a lot when erecting it next time out.
You will soon work out your own routine and who does what after a few trips out. Lists can help (also when packing up ready to go home - in fact I still use my "tick off" list for, windows closed, roof lights down, gas off, taps open, etc. etc. before we hitch up).
