Hi

We had some (3) dog tethers (the metal screw in type) and some heavy duty luggage straps, roof rack type straps so thinking along the lines of the Isabella storm straps we screw in the dog tethers at the base of the three upright awning poles, place the straps over the corner joints at the top of the awning poles then loop through the dog tether metal "hoop / triangle" and voila! a home made cheapo storm strap that is "hidden" inside the awning and works a treat

Might be able to get the products cheaper elsewhere

I thought storm straps went over the awning Not inside ?????? for the sake of £20 quid i'd buy the real deal

No - they go inside also as these prevent potential damage to your awning as they dont rub on the awning material and also you would need 3 of the Isabella type (presuming you have three upright poles) and that would make it £60 - so quite a saving to be had.

Some awnings come with large clip on straps (i see yours does in your profile pictures) that lead from the corner of your awning but with mine being fairly old then i had to think slightly differently on a cost effective solution utilising bits i already had lying around in my garage.

The dog corkscrews are rubbish at getting into any sort of stony ground

a lot of caravan pitches have hard standing to put the awning on as well

mine is the same as this - £10.43 - not sure it's worth the hassle of trying to make one

Agreed. Horses for courses - i have used heavy duty pegs with a ring on then in stoney ground / hard standing - i suppose i was thinking of grassed areas as we hardly ever go to sites with hard standing as we much prefer farm / CL and CS locations for peace and quiet - apart from that there is one less than 3 miles from me with spectacular views etc..
