One other thing ......if you are buying one 2nd hand make sure it has the registration card with it so you can register it with Alko. If you can't do this then it will invalidate your insurance as they also state that the lock must be registered in your name!

Is this entirely true?
Are yOu insured through the caravan club? They didn't ask about this when we told them we had one!
I will have to call them up to clarify this

Hi, If it helps I have just posted the extract from the policy letter I was sent on a new thread highlighting this clause in the CC policy to forum members. Let us know what they say when you speak to them as I was only sent the letter 4 weeks ago so not sure if it is a new clause!

We have a Winterhof chassis so I got the official Winterhoff hitch lock. Costs a bit more than some, but well worth it as it is good security and goes on and off with speed and no fuss.

~We went for a "Sold Secure" Gold clamp for insurance purposes. We use the Bulldog Euroclamp, very affordable, very easy to put on.

Neither will keep a determined thief at bay for longer than about two minutes, just like the rest of the aftermarket clamps/locks; so I also got a set of Milenco adjustable steady locks to fit front and rear - at least I'll make them go all around the van a few times to disable the security. Gits.

Dont fit hitch lock when travelling - Emergency services will just cut through your chassis hitch (expensive) if they cant unhook your van in the event of an accident.

Thanks all for the advice, I have bought mid price range, new, easy to fit items. As many of you said it won't stop them if they want the van but it does meet the insurance spec.
