My elderly dog Rocky has always liked the caravan and I let my 10 month old pup in the van today as it was cleared out after its service.

She liked being able to see out the windows and refused to come out after five minutes, she just wanted to chill on the seat.

Is this typical behaviour with dogs in vans?

My dog seems to like the caravan but absolutely detests travelling to the destination in the car for some reason. Panting all the way there and all the way back as well but once set up in the van she settles down quite comfortably.

Can I ask how you keep the dog smell under control? I only ask as I have recently purchased an Abi van and can't get rid of the dog smell from the previous owners. As you own dogs I assume you may know of a cure?

I have ordered a fog bomb off ebay so time will tell if that works.

My two dogs (king charles spaniel and cavalier king charles) love being in the caravan. They are just as sad as us i think when holiday is over! They are only 10 months and 1 year old so lots more holidays to come for them!

I already answered your thread but we don't have a doggy smell problem at all actually. We only cleaned the upholstery as the caravan was second hand and wanted to freshen it up and clean it to make it ours.

We have a Lhasa Apso, then aged about 3 months He used to lie in the van window with ease, dont think he will now
We dont let our dog if wet jump on the seats, also use throws and brought all the seats, cushions home to be cleaned at the end of the season.

The pup is a Bichon Frise and she goes to the doggy salon once a month and often smells better than me.

The older dog is also a Bichon but he is very elderly and he does smell. Hes too old to travel these days so its not an issue.

My dogs love the caravan, especially my little one, she goes crazy when we start loading up, my rescue likes it, but hasn't got used to travelling well, but once she's there she settles in and loves it.
Can't help with the dog odour, I'm afraid , I don't think my dogs have a smell lol, they are poodles and they don't moult or really have a dog smell to them. They have a bath once a week and I clip and groom them every three, so they always smell fresh and lovely.

Our little dog loves the caravan too and if she's not sitting outside watching the world go by she will sit up the front to look out of the window.  During the evening she transfers to the back end where its darker and quieter which is great if we're on a meet & want to join in the social evenings - we check back during the evening and all is quiet.   Our caravan has a strange (non-doggy) smell which I think is the upholstery but once we're "living" in it we stop noticing it.

It wouldn't be the same without a dog!

we have an irish setter who is blind and a boxer .they just love it .when we bring the caravan out of storage to our home to pack things up .im sure the boxer tells the setter the vans here because when we enter the house they are both doing somersaults they are that excited.

on wednesday we are picking our brand new caravan up and bringing it straight to the house because on 1st of may we are going away for 9 weeks .got the same layout so our blind dog will still have it mapped out .we also use throws and when the weathers rainy we put their coats on so its only their legs and paws to dry before coming into van

My dog (small blue lurcher) loves camping... I often wonder if it's because you have to take them to the dog walk more often, rather than let them out into a garden like you do at home = more walks! And you go walking more often with them on holiday anyway. Or maybe mine likes it because she gets to lie on the seat so she isn't under my feet! LOL!

I wondered that too, if it was because they get more walks and treats and luxury, not silly these dogs, they know when they're on to a good thing lol.
