Hi all,
This weekend we put our brand new porch awning up for the first time. It's one of those curved ones and we're very pleased with it, apart from...
There are two upright poles that go at either end, against the caravan. They are adjustable and fit into clips up the side, to hold the whole thing in place.
With me so far?
The tops of these poles go into a pocket and the bottom has a cap on the end. All the other poles that go into a pocket have got flattened ends and a plastic cap so that they slide in neatly. However, these two don't, they have spikey ends!!! I could well understand this if there was a hole in the top for the spike to go through but there isn't. This spikey pin thing just goes into the pocket and slides around, threatening to burst through the top at any moment! Has anyone else got one of these awnings and is theirs the same?
Cheers all,
Andy
We thought of that but it's the kind of spike that you'd use for tying a guy rope round. It's not very strong and would snap off if you stuck it in the ground. The instructions don't show any of the pole layout sadly. Also, the end with the cap on is round and not flattened so it looks like this is the 'foot' of the pole...
Thanks adandemsmom and birdman101, I'll try putting the spike into the ground next time we use it. It's a great awning though and we're really pleased with it
They sound like porch flap type poles so you can open a panel lift it up and peg it out for ventilation / shade. Are there any holes at the foot of a zip out doorway so the spikes can fit into the holes.Like a canopy like on the front of this tent
asdj45, they are the same as the porch flap poles, they gave us some of those as well. The only difference is that these at the back are adjustable. The bit with the black plastic cap on is the widest and the bit with the point on is the narrowest.
We have one of these awnings and I must say we were as confused as you.But as my wife said, dont be bloody stupid, the spikes go in the ground. Shes right of course, as usual.
We have the Outdoor Revolution porch awning and we had to buy the poles that go against the van seperately.
It sounds as it the poles you are talking about are, as others have said, awning extension poles and that if you want the ones that go against the van, you will need to purchase them yourself.
