We have had our bank holiday weekend planned with friends for a while now and have been looking forward to meeting up and celebrating a birthday and generally having fun with a few drinkies along the way !
Until this morning when we have had a phone call from the farmer who owns the farm we are staying on to say hes had to shut the site due to being under water and looks like its not going to clear for the weekend !
How dare the weather put a "dampner" on our gathering ! We now have a struggle on our hands to find somewhere to accomodate 3 caravans in the midlands area !!
If anyone knows of vaccancies around northampton area or within 20 miles radius ld be grateful (dates 4th -7th may )

August -Ardeche .
October- White mead forset park
There is a documentary on TV tomorrow all about the drought and how folks are managing. I guess that it will have been filmed a few of weeks back and they will show rivers with no water, waterfalls without water, reservoirs with hard baked banks etc etc when we all know that out there they are all in flood

ps the Hose pipe ban has been lifted ....you can now use all your hose pipes to build a raft

We've lost our bank holiday trip as well. We where booked in at the Badminton Horse Trials from Thursday til Monday but they've been cancelled due to the ground being waterlogged and partly flooded. We go every year, it's our Spring holiday. We're gutted,
you had a lucky escape really.it could have happened when you were there.we were flooded off the keswick site and only had 30 minutes to pack up and leave.it was not a nice thing to do.stood ankle deep in water trying to get your awning down and impossible to fold it due to water on the ground.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.

Isn't it strange how the minute a hosepipe ban is put in place the heavens open and it never stops pouring?! The same thing happened a couple of years ago in July - from drought to flood in less than two days!
I'm sorry to hear you're break has been cancelled, I hope you manage to find somewhere.

Rose, we have just brought our van back from Badminton, we pulled in last Saturday and it was horrendous then. My husband was towing vehicles in with his defender which is never a good sign towing people in at the start of the week !! Needless to say we are gutted as we were exhibiting as well so huge financial losses incurred as well
We are however looking for a getaway for this weekend and can't find anything in Northampton/East Anglia region.
Going up to storage this am to give the van a good wash and then this pm, (apparently) God is going to give it a good rinse. Team work!!!

Landy-Trax. Oh dear you got a double disapointment then. We looked for somewhere this weekend but most are full due to being bank holiday. anyway judgeing by the weather forecast for the weekend I think we'll stay at home. Hope it's better for Chatsworth next week.
cwdc56768. Good idea, at least you cant be accused of wasting water. Mine is still clean only took the cover off to get it ready for this weekend, I've put it back on again now.
Too far for you I know, but we are going to a Beltane (May Day celebration) this weekend which is free (voluntary donation). Why not have a look for something similar in your area - there may be some free/cheap festivals/events you could go to? Or if you are in the Camping and Caravanning Club, are there any temporary holiday sites or meets local to you? Hope you get sorted.
