Further to my posting concerning caravan jacks, my next question is;
From your experience, which is the best caravan breakdown/roadside assistance organisation? Green Flag seems cheap enough, but the form appears to refer to the towing vehicle rather than the caravan! Which is why I ask this question, (website design must be a growth industry, so many get it hopelessly wrong!!)
Caravan Club (Mayday) offers only 30 mins roadside assistance for £34 which doesn`t seem so brill . . .
------------- Peripheral people don`t have as much excitement but they sure live longer
not used as yet and glad,we have green flag and full cover including home start(about £90).imho with breakdown you get what you pay for.at least i know they will take us to the site and come back for us,means we do not lose the holiday.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
Glad you haven't had to call anyone out. We spent three days last week in a breakdown recovery yard (waiting for the part for the car). They would have brought us home or taken us to a site but we were more than happy with the arrangements, coming as it did with EHU and water.
I agree with you, you get what you pay for. Ours came courtesy of More Than at about £76 for the year.
------------- How come when some people visit the fountain of knowledge, they only gargle!!!
"The only cover I want is for punctures really. So I don`t have to struggle . . . My car cover doesn`t include caravans except 3rd party stuff.
Doesn't your breakdown include trailers? I ask because as far as the law is concerned the trailer (ie caravan) is part of your towing vehicle. It therefore follows (ignore the obvious pun?) that the caravan wheels are part of the car/towing vehicle.

I've been in the AA for over 10 years. I like to cover ME not the car in case something happens when I'm in a friends or families car. I only have basic Road Side Assistance. When I was looking to re-new I checked other companies and found Green Flag and RAC would only cover ME at a far greater cost than the AA. Also when reading the small print the RAC charges for a call-out if it's for the caravan where as the AA dont.
most of the breakdown companies (AA,RAC et al) will only recover the caravan if there is a problem with the car, If the car is fine but the caravan needs recovering or roadside repair i.e puncture, then they will not come out. The exception is the Caravan clubs Mayday (run by Green Flag) or the C&CCs (run by RAC), these are special agreements that will cover the caravan if there is a problem with it, the advantage of these schemes is they also include a double jeopardy i.e if you are your way on holiday, they will take you there and bring you back afterwards if the problem cannot be fixed on site during your holiday (car or caravan). I have Personal Mayday cover which covers any car i am a passenger in and it costs £90 per year, which is a lot less than the equivalent cover by the others

------------- Are you sure you couldn't squeeze anything else in love ?
Britannia rescue also cover the caravan.
I lost a wheel last year and they arranged for my car to be checked over and I was able to drive home. The caravan was taken to a storage place where they managed to temporarily fit a wheel to it and then brought it home to me on a low loader.
The caravan was a write off and the whole matter was settled in two weeks.

I double checked with the AA on renewel and they said my folding camper was covered also I asked them to email me the confirmation which they did and I printed it off and now carry it with me just in case they try to renage on the directive have not had an occassion to call them out hopefully never will however I do ask the question every time I renew
I've just checked with RAC and they say that if my car breaks down and they can't repair it they''ll tow it home and the trailer/caravan also - however if someone drives into the back of my trailer/caravan, it'll cost me. Will have a look at what the CC have to offer. Ta
------------- I know nothing....but I learn quickly :)
That's just it, Wif Waf, you have your caravan covered for accidents/breakdown, not just the car.
We had an incident a few years ago when a mechanical fault developed in our caravan in the middle of a journey. We quickly realised that our car was covered for breakdown (and they would tow our caravan home too if necessary) but if the caravan had a breakdown and the car was fine, the caravan was not covered by the car breakdown at all, and that we needed individual caravan breakdown cover....

Took a break like everyone over covid, flogged the caravan and got a campervan!
ok i am going to ask dum quetion i bet but here goes we have green flag at the momnet but its due to run out. if and get may day cover on our caravan does that cover the car and caravan for break down or just the caravan. I had presumed it would be both but then thought the car and caravans insureance is differnt so is the break down cover
