Hello there,

We have a Bailey Olympus 525 and for our hols this year we would like an Outwell patio heater for the awning - thing is we don't have an electric socket available for use in the awning.  Whilst we could feed one through a window this isn't ideal.

Is it possible to get one fitted or could it be done by ourselves?  Possibly putting one inside the outdoor locker...?  Does it affect your insurance if you do have one fitted?

Many thanks in advance,

Emma.

Most caravan service centres will put you in an external 230 volt socket - but be careful if your van is under warranty. You can do it yourself if you have electrical experience.

I used to have an Olympus 546 and wanted an external power socket. I had one fitted below the ehu input in the battery compartment. I spoke to Bailey regarding the warranty and they advised that as long as the work was carried out by a qualified electrician it wouldn't be affected. Needed an extension real to reach under the caravan to the awning but it worked well.

If you do any modifications to your caravan then the insurance company has to be notified. If you fail to update your insurance details and you have to make a claim for any reason the insurance will refuse to pay out and this is identical with any insurance policy. The facts are that there is nothing stopping you from installing an extra electrical circuit but the advice is to have the work undertaken professionally so that you have an invoice with a satisfaction guarantee of workmanship. If anything then does go wrong in the future then at least you are legally covered by both the electrical fitter and the insurance.
