A thread that has been done to death no doubt! We're in desperate need but have little money. Husband wants to save up and buy a proper NR awning but I'm reluctant because I know I don't stand a cat in hells chance of getting it up on my own. I read on an old thread that motorhome awnings might be a better bet but the pyramid weekender which would have been fine seems to be discontinued and the others seem to go out a long way from the van, be too expensive or not have an annexe (which is the whole point for us of having an awning as we have 4 kids and a 5 berth van).

Any ideas very welcome

There are lots of awnings for sale on here, preloved, and ebay. Once you know the cm size of awning you need, I would look on ebay as you get to look at pictures.
If you will be putting up the awning on your own then look for an awning which the sides zip out as well as the front panels. This will make it easier to put up.
Again if you search stand alone awnings in ebay you will get plenty of choice
The nearer the peak of the season the more you will have to pay.

with our old van we got a awning and annex off of ebay. It was £100 in total and wasn't that bad to put up. Sometimes you may have to travel to get them but when you can save a huge amount of money I think its worth it. Ours was like new and had only been used a couple of times.

I've always found caravan awnings a lot easier to put up than tents. (A stand alone motorhome awning is more like a tent.)

You thread it through the rail first then the caravan takes the weight so all you have to do is put up the frame inside.

I agree one that all three (or four depending on size and type) panels zip out makes it easier.
