When I have seen these in caravan shops they always seem to be mega bucks?

I have an old round status thing at the mo but reception is at best a bit patchy. These seem cheap do you think it will simply bolt on if I remove the old status aerial?

No I don't think so and even if it did you would still have to loosen it to rotate it.  It is directional and would give a big improvement on omnidirectional aerials.  It seems to be a yagi antenna with a cover and built in amplifier.  Cheap enough but is not the same thing as a fitted status directional aerial.
