I am thinking reaaly seriously about buying a Lunar Ariva 2008 (2 berth), and tow it with a golf 1.6 FSI (petrol), could I get some advice on the quality of this caravan, alnog with thoughts on the Golf towing ability.

I'm new to this so really would appreciate your comments please.

I would say that the golf is a bit under powered myself, I always like to have plenty of power rather than being on the limit and struggling up hills.
Does the golfs manual have the recommended train weight in it.

Thanks for quick response.

The plate on the car state 1200kg tow capacity, caravan 980kg, is this a good guide though.

It sounds like 980 kgs. is just the MIRO (unladen weight). You need to do the calculation on the MTPLM (laden weight) which should be stated on the caravan weight limits ID plate which should be found below the caravan door which should display both weights. There should be two weight limits because the MTPLM minus the MIRO gives you the caravan payload. Once you can provide the MTPLM a true calculation can be made.

The Arriva is very light van and even the latest 2012 models have a MPTLM (max loaded weight) of 995kg
so your 2008 model at 980kg fully loaded will be the correct figure .
The Arriva also has a narrower body under 7ft so less wind resistance which means your VW Golf 1.6 fsi will easily manage this light weight van .
Just make sure the Lunar you buying has been properly looked after and if it's been serviced annually the balance of the 6 year water ingression warranty will be transferable to yourself .

Unless Lunar have changed their policy recently, I doubt the warantee will be transferable, it certainly was not when we bought our 2006 Lunar from a main dealer in 2009.
