I understand that I need to set the output. I.e. 500w, 1000w or 2000w.
I also understand the thermostat dial 1 to 8
I also understand the fan speed 1 to 5
What is the difference between auto and manual setting?

Thanks for that video Michael. We have found out we have been using our heater the wrong way. We thought that the 2000 1000 and 500 settings on the dial were wattage and just turned them to 500 if we wanted low heat and 2000 if we wanted more heat. And we thought we were intelligent!!!!!!!
I have also seen the video and learned so much from it too as I think most will who are unsure about the 'Truma Ultra Heat' operation and function like I was. Thanks michael for such a useful link, I don't know what we would do without you.
You can also get a remote sensor, which is fitted to the bottom of the fire near the gas thermostat, this bypasses the wall controle thermostat if its near or above the fire, and makes the ultra heat eliment cut off too fast.
------------- Think this year is to follow old meet friends for 2014.
If you cant do someone a good turn, don`t do them a bad one,its nice to be nice you know, and little things mean much more later in life.

Surely the 2000, 1000 and 500 watt settings DO regulate the amount of heat, otherwise what would be the point in having three settings? May as well just have a 500. If you're on a 16 amp EHU then 2000 watt setting will give more heat safely. 500 watt setting can be used where the supply is, say, 6 amp, but will not give as much heat. But then you can always supplement the heat with the gas on as well. And 500 watt setting can be used when you don't need as much heat, whatever the EHU supply.

2000 watts will heat the caravan up quicker than 1000 and 500 but once up to temperature it will not be cutting in for as long. The only real difference is how long it takes to bring the caravan up to temperature. If it's really cold then the lower settings may never bring it up to temperature but that's the only way they regulate the heat by being underpowered for warming the caravan up.
