hello every one i'm new to this site but would love some of your excellent advice.
we have just purchased a 2 berth caravan to go fishing with and would love to get a little tv for the kids to watch and me to watch my soaps lol.
there's going to be no electric to hook up to so would love to know which tv is the best to run of a leisure battery?
also who do you find best to get them insured with as we also have to get insurance and again are new to it all so would love your advice on that as well.
another question is towing? i passed in 2004 and partner past only last October would we look at having to do a towing test? we have tried to read up about it online etc but all the notes you read really doesn't make much sense. my partners been told he'll have to do one by his dad and work mates but at min what i'm reading is telling us as long as the combined weight of the car and trailer is no more then 3.5 tonnes then he could? what would people advise? and if he was to do the test does he have to have a minimum amount of towing lessons before the test?
We used to use a normal mains tv in our van but as we do mainly rallies with no electric we have bought a 12v tv but also use a 60w solar panel to keep the battery charged up as the battery will also be used for lighting as well so don't want to kill it using the tv. There are quite a few expensive makes of 12v tv but also some cheaper ones too, just do a search for 12v tv's

Regarding the portable television, we bought one from Argos which is a TV/DVD combi and although it doesn't state that it will run from 12 volts there is actually a socket at the rear to accept the appropriate lead which we only found out after reading the instruction leaflet at home. They probably don't mention this in their product information list because as it doesn't actually come with a 12 volt lead they would probably be in breach of the sales and goods act due to the fact that it is not supplied to run from both 240 mains and 12 volt power. This item was £95 a few months ago but has now been reduced to £79.99 and that is probably because there is limited stock left. If you do a search at your local store online first and they do happen to have one in stock, ask to have a look at one first, look at the rear and read the information leaflet on 12 Volts input. We have only used our TV on 240 volt mains so far so haven't bothered trying to obtain a lead as yet but as far as I'm aware, 12 volt TV's (with no DVD player) are only readily available at camping & caravanning accessory stores but usually cost well over £300 so this is worth a look at least for a digital freeview television complete with DVD player at £79.99.
thank you ever so much will look at all links and read up about the driving and insurance. as for the tv i think we'll order one from kogan as there really cheap and just what we are after thank you Paul for putting the link up to them.
Regarding caravan insurance, if you look at the top right of your screen you should see an advert for Caravan Guard. If you click on the link and request a quote and mention UK Campsite you will get a discount plus we found them to be around £40 per year cheaper in comparison to many other touring caravan insurance companies. Their underwriters are Royal Sun Alliance which is a company that has a contract that covers all Motabilty vehicles on a 3 year hire contract so they are a very reputable company to deal with should you have to make a claim.
