My old 1992 Coachman Genius had a maximum gross weight limit of 1000 kgs. but had the same size tyres and the handbook advised 42 Lbs/sq. inch. This may not be the absolute correct pressure but at least it's a guide if you can't get a firm reply. If you look on the wall of the tyres it should state what the maximum pressure is so as long as you don't exceed this figure you should be okay.

Thank you for your reply, I have had a look at tyresafe.org that someone recommended, it shows for my type of tyre 65psi, sounds a lot, dont want them blowing out on me. but thats what the chart says, I will have a look on the side of the tyre see if it shows a maximum pressure,  Thanks for your help.

Regards

John

IIRR my 1994 Daystar had tyre pressures of about 52psi, certainly in that region but it is 9 years since I swapped it for the Hymer. Lovely van though.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013

I am now getting a bit worried, I have tried the two sites that have been recommended to me, Arcsystems.biz and tyresafe.org both sites mention the size tyres that I have on my van, BUT they are giving different Psi pressures, Arcsystems give a psi of 52ish whilst tyresafe give a Psi of 65, so there is a big difference, arcsystems tyre is shown fro a 6 ply rating, and tyresafe is shown for an 8 ply rating, mine is 8 ply, would the ply rating give me the difference of 13 psi, these two sites seem to be contradicting themselves.

Cheers

My tyre size is the same as yours and are 8 ply rating, also my max gross weight for caravan is also 1100 kg and I run mine at 52psi.

Mine same size also and 8 ply, max gross weight of van 1240kg, handbook says 54psi so would go with the lower psi. of 52..

hi, the table on my website is from the original Tyresafe booklet so accurate, but it does not cover 8ply tyres.
The current Tyresafe website only quotes maximum pressures which for 8ply with one exception is 65psi

So at the moment, you have a 165R13C 8ply with a load index number of 94 so a maximum load of 1340kg per 'pair' of tyres at 65psi in each

You say for a 6ply from my websites chart that 52psi-ish would be correct for the weight of your van? that suggests your van weighs give or take 1200kg?

If 1200kg is correct? then for 165R13C 94 8plys you need 57psi
Either side of that, 54psi for 1158kg and 60psi for 1256kg

Arc systems.

Hi, Thank you for your reply, So I have put my pressures to 65psi in each tyre as it shows on the chart, it states that the C after the numbers donates they are light commercial tyres, so 65 psi should be ok for my van then ???? I do not want a blowout on the motorway, what do you advise...

Cheers.

Thanks for all your replies guys, I have just noticed two posts that I did not read and thye are the same size tyres as mine and they run at 52psi, so I will drop my pressures the 52, just to be on the safe side.

Thanks.

as Gary of Arc systems has said the original tyresafe chart quoted tyre pressures relating to specific axle loads for each tyre size. The new tyresafe chart only quotes the maximum tyre pressure for each tyre size
so Gary's chart is correct

Higgins, From my post above, I made a guess from what you said about the total weight of you van.
This I thought might be around 1200kg and said 57psi would be correct for that and the 8ply tyres you have fitted, as it is, 52psi your guessing at is not right

So what is the weight of your van?? and I'll give you the exact pressure
