It certainly has answered my question I really am in the minority I think I should have phrased the question better I really didnt mean to stir such feeling although I have to say its the first post of mine to go to 3 pages i am very easy going and dont mind what anyone else gets up to and i am not judgemental although reading my post I certainly come over as doing that it does sadden me though the way tv has taken over our lives I sit at home and watch some absolute garbage and then say I'm not watching anymore a day or two later do it again what I was trying to say was caravanning for us is breaking away from the rushing around at work and home and having a complete change and chance to just chill out something I accept we all do in our own way I am not the a### - h### that my post would infer that I am although I have hugged the odd tree
Who doesn't take a tv away with them ? we don't I am amazed how people will tow a caravan to some of the most scenic and tranquil areas of the country only to spend ages faffing about trying to get a signal so that they can spend hours inside the van or awning watching the the box I can't think of anything that I would miss on the tv I don't watch sport so the Olympics will pass me bye I don't need any news of world affairs etc yes I know I'm in the minority but for us caravanning is an escape from the normal day to day life at home/ work
Phi1 76 - I must say I 100% agree with you. Went to a lovely site while back and a number of people spending hours during the day watching TV - very strange! So lovely to get away from the dreaded box.

You go away to get away from the dreaded box, but then spend your time looking out for people who do watch TV? Very strange!
Remember the TV to some is there as a necessity to stave of boredom, yes, I know you're going to think, just get out and about and truthfully, that's not so easy for some.
My Mam and Dad have got a tourer and they have a TV and DVD player. My Mam has severe rheumatoid arthritis and some days she just ached so much she couldn't even hold her kindle, so the TV goes on.
Then last year (September) she had a brain haemorrhage whilst enjoying a holiday in the caravan, she's now severely disabled and can't walk, dress herself, go to the toilet by herself etc, but once she has learnt to take a few steps, her and my dad will be back in the caravan (the caravan is the carrot that dangles infront of her to motivate her to learn to walk again).
However, when my dad goes and has an hour fishing by himself or indeed, god forbid, goes and gets a shower, he'll pop the TV on for my Mam to watch.
So, if you see a fella in his early sixties, with a wife in a wheelchair, setting up a Bailey Pageant Auvergne, along with the satelitte dish, please don't be so critical of what he is doing. They are just doing their best to enjoy themselves as best they can.
Yes, there are some beautiful sights in this country of ours, but just because they are there, doesn't mean everybody wants to see them. Seeing a different view outside the window, is just as much a holiday to some as hiking through a field or whatever is to others!
I agree with whats been said before, each to their own. As long as they are enjoying themselves and not disturbing their neighbours, let them get on with it!
I always take ours, came in very handy last year when the weather was awful, we stayed in, heating on, nice glass of Baileys watching a film. Snug as a bug in a rug. It was bliss.
I'm sitting in my caravan on site, on my iPad whilst hubby is watching tv, just come back from a nice walk with the dogs, relaxation in my gadgety van

The road can be tough and rough, but what you put in you get back 10 x more.
I do take a T.V and watch it, why not, as someone else said the caravan is an extension of the home really. What I'd like to know is what the people who don't take a T.V away with them get up to of an evening when it's chucking it down with rain, you filthy beasts!
I travel alone with my two Cockers, and I always take my TV and laptop. I'm in Normandy at the moment on my laptop. I don't watch a lot of TV at home nor when away, but I do like to see the news, particularly when I'm having breakfast, and listening to Radio 5 Live.
I also take a lot of books with me so in inclement weather it's nice to relax with a book, or watch TV, also at night before going to bed.
It's amazing that people like to dictate what others should be doing when caravanning. My first caravan had no mains electricity or heater, and of course there was no such a thing as satellite TV, so very little option but read. We have gone a long way since the late seventies, when I bought my first caravan - a Lynton Javelin - and I wouldn't want to return there. Here I am with my Challenger Sport with all mod cons, and I couldn't care less about how others want to spend their time when away in their caravans.
Is tv the reason that there are fewer conversations between people on site these days? When I first started caravanning it was almost guaranteed that you would have a drink and a chat with a neighbour. These days - especially in the UK it is not done to sit out in the evening.
What I often find these days too is - you get a nod and that is about it. Even passing folk on the site roads, sees them putting their heads down and walking past. Is it me? Do I look odd? (don't answer that one)
We have a TV in the front area of the caravan and another in the bedroom area all on Sky + HD. Unfortunately being a lesser mortal I cannot venture far out in the evenings and my walking abilities are some what restricted. Watching Tv and going on the Internet is my way of relaxing! However we do go for drives and where possible I use my mobility scooter to get around and do some window shopping. On rainy days like this, nothing to do except TV or Internet!
